Hazelwood Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #58 of 62 Kenmare B&B and Inns
Reviewed 3 May 2012

Hazelwood B&B has a perfect setting. From most windows one can view Kenmare Bay and from some, the mountains. When we were there in late April, the mountain peaks were still snow covered. A sheep grazed in the grass surrounding the property. A short walk down a winding path led to a secluded beach. Inside, the house is warm and welcoming. The large sunlit dining/sitting room has an inviting fireplace with comfortable leather furniture. The en-suite bedrooms are well appointed with comfortable beds and spotless bathrooms. Breakfast is a delight with farm fresh eggs and homemade muffins, fresh fruit and yogurt. The proprietess shared the history of the house with us and also offered helpful sightseeing hints. This home is a jewel on the emerald isle.

I have stayed at Hazelwood a few times and returned again this year.

The living room area has been refurbished and we spent a nice evening infront of the log fire.

The breakfast is still amazing and plentiful, especially the freshly baked muffins.

This is such a peaceful spot to stay, and it is a short walk down to Kenmare bay. If you have a car it is a short drive into Kenmare where there are plenty more pubs, pretty shops and things to do.

Best of all the places we stayed in ireland. Yummy breakfasts with fresh chicken eggs and a view of the sea. Clean and comfortable en-suite rooms and a friendly, helpfull hostess. We had a lovely stay and will be back again and again!

Spent a long weekend with my other half and I enjoyed it thorougly.
The property is hidden from the road which gives you a sense of isolation from the cars.
It has amazing views over the bay from the breakfast room and bedrooms.
Breakfast was plentiful, freshly cooked Irish breakfasts (mmm...those home made muffins) or cereals and toast.
The family are very friendly and the kids interact very well with the guest's kids.
Rooms have a clean and fresh look although ours didn't have ensuite, but it didn't bother me at all to cross the corridor to go to the bathroom (more of a home feeling, really).
One cold evening we stayed in the living room watching tv and the lady of the house got the chimney going for us. Very cosy!
It has a nice stream to one side of the property which ends in the private beach. I wonder if in the summer gets cleaned up from the seaweed for guests to use. If it does, would be a real plus.

I stayed at Hazelwood a few times over the past few years and have always enjoyed my stay. The breakfast is great, with a full Irish breakfast and freshly baked muffins. You can arrange pony and horse riding at the nearby stable and go on a trail down to the sea where you can admire the view whilst your horse eats the seaweed.
It's a great place to go with families, and if you have a car you can take lots of amazing trips to various beauty spots on the coast, or explore Kenmare an dteh ring of Kerry.

My grandparents retired to this part of Ireland so I spent a lot of time in the area as a child and wanted to share it with my girlfriend.
A family friend recommended Hazelwood so we booked up for the May Bank Holiday weekend.

We were greeted at the door by a friendly dog and a couple of chickens which set the tone for the whole weekend.

The house is full of character, unlike so many of the other soulless B&Bs we passed en route. The family are very friendly and have a wealth of local knowledge that you can tap into for things to do and places to see.

The rooms are clean and decorated in a modern way but in keeping with the ambience of the house, and the breakfast was lovely, with freshly baked muffins. And the view at breakfast is amazing!!

All in all it was a lovely trip down memory lane. Hazelwood is full of character, in a great location and makes a great base to explore the beautiful Kerry countryside.

Kenmare is a great town in a lovely part of County Kerry. There are probably some lovely accommodation options in the area. I would not put this at the top of my list, despite the fact it gets a very good recommendation from lonely planet.

While the location of this property has the potential to be lovely and it is convenient if you have just completed the drive around the ring of Beara, the whole property appears to be quiet tired and does not meet the standard of similar bed and breakfasts in Ireland.

The rooms are clean and the breakfast is fine. But everything feels very old and not comfy or cosy.

We have stayed in so many lovely bed and breakfasts in Ireland, and this is certainly not one of them.

What a shame that you were so disappointed in your stay at Hazelwood. We take our guests views very seriously so have recently redecorated and just ordered a new (Very comfy!) suite for the lounge.
However,Im glad you enjoyed the view and found our home clean and the home-cooked breakfast good.
Any suggestions on improving our service are always welcome.
