“Oysters and Prawns in Kenmare”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Came here for a light dinner and was EXTREMELY pleased both with the quality of the food and the service. The Glenbeigh oysters were fantastic and the Bay prawns -- butterflied and lightly fried in butter and garlic -- were sublime. Our server Marian was delightful. Highly recommended.

“Unexpected fine dining experience!”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Arrived in Tom Crean's off the street and by default. We had tried to get a reservation at the Lime Tree as we eaten here a couple of years ago and loved it but it was booked out. As it turned out we landed very firmly on our feet and Tom Crean's was a real find. It was very early evening and there was only two other tables occupied when we were seated. The decor is not the warmest we have experienced and the room felt rather quiet. Things changed rapidly..... our servers were friendly and welcoming and as we waited for our wine and starters the room filled up quickly and there was soon an ambience of bubbly chatter and smiling staff. The food was superb! In fact it was among the finest we have had in Ireland and on our top ten list from around Europe.
If you like monkfish, and I do, this is probably the best prepared and cooked monk you will ever eat. Marguerite had prawn raviolli and enjoyed just as much as me! Guinness ice cream to finish with excellent coffee. Damn close to perfection...... Thanks to staff and chef.

“Superb seafood, great decor”
Reviewed 14 May 2014 via mobile

We arrived in Kenmare and decided to eat at Tom Crean's because he is one of my husband's heroes. We were so excited to find out that his granddaughter owned the restaurant. She spent a lot of time sharing stories about her grandfather and we enjoyed all the pictures and memorabilia that adorn the walls. The food was out of this world. The sea bass was perfectly cooked and sat on a bed of puréed squash that had such a great blend of seasoning. The tomato salsa on top was so good. My husband had the scallops with a beautiful sauce and ratatouille. The vegetables were so fresh and the potatoes had a great dill butter sauce. Great wine list. Service was perfectly paced. Our waitress was so friendly and she sold us on the homemade ice cream. If in Kenmare pick this place!!

“Superb meal”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

My wife and I dined here last night after walking the Kerry Way the past 7 days. What a treasure to find.

And to add to the great eating, we met the owner, Aileen, who is Tom Crean's grandaughter.

Aileen is a well trained (Michelin) chef, who between preparing our great dinner regaled us with stories of her grandfather who was a member of the famous Shackelton Expedition that attempted to cross Antarctica in the late 1800s / early 1900s.

The restaurant is decorated with photographs and memorabilia from the expedition which adds to the dining "experience".

The steaming hot celery/apple soup was to die for! Ditto the chicken breats stuffed with a leek dressing.

If you are anywhere near Kenmare - do not miss the chance to dine here. And ask to meet Aileen, if she doesn't greet you upon arrival.

Another highlight of visiting Kerry County!
