“Ticks a lot of boxes but lacking a certain atmosphere.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

The hotel is in a beautiful setting and we were delighted with our room which was extremely spacious with lovely view. The food was of excellent quality and my Arnold Bennett omelette was one of the best I have had in a hotel with spinach smoked haddock and gruyere cheese. The fine dining restaurant meal was very enjoyable also and the service impeccable.

However I do feel that the hotel was lacking a certain atmosphere and this was proven by the fact that an American guest who was a concert pianist and who had commenced a little impromptu music and singing session which was most enjoyable, and may I add also very civilised, was asked to stop playing at 11 30 pm as guests were sleeping upstairs. This felt a little inhospitable and I think all guests especially the Americans were surprised and disappointed.

The staff at reception were polite and helpful but I felt they were under pressure as they appeared to have to leave their work in a back room in order to deal with guests at the desk. It just did not feel like the " cead mile failte" which I have encountered in hotels of a similar standard in Ireland.

However I have to say that the staff in general we're all very pleasant and helpful and that I would certainly consider a return visit.

Old world charm, stunning views over the Atlantic ocean, great food and excellent service.
Located about 2km outside town, this lodge will help you forget that you are in one of the biggest tourist areas in Ireland and appreciate the beautiful scenery.

Take one of their complimentary bikes and go explore the surrounding areas - I haven't biked in years and this was definitely one of my highlights of my trip to Ireland.

Room Tip: Rooms are huge and you will not be disappointed. Our room overlooked the Atlantic ocean which was am...

We stayed at Sheen Falls Lodge for 2 nights recently and it is a very peaceful and restful place. The setting is gorgeous with the Falls right there but the place had an eerie feeling of emptiness in the middle of their busy season. When we checked in we felt not so welcome and the staff was incredibly stiff and unfriendly. We were afraid to talk at breakfast in the huge empty dining room which was so quiet it was uncomfortable. Given this, we decided to pass on eating dinner there and went into town instead. They gave us a ride to the town of Kenmare in the fun old antique car they have parked in front which was a nice convenience. Our room was nice and recently rennovated but crazy as it sounds, too big and not filled with enough furniture. It was extremely hot in the room and we could barely open the windows and when we did the room was filled with bugs. They have signs for a Health and Fitness room but they really do not have a fitness room or any exercise equipment to speak of. This is a great setting in a beautiful place but needs to be more relaxed and friendly. The bellman Tim was the freindliest person in the place. We did not participate in any of the activities since we were there to tour the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula so can not give an opinion, but maybe we would have enjoyed staying there more if we had time to do other things they offered.

From the moment we arrived we relaxed. The staff are fantastically trained and are ready to help with any need. The rooms are very spacious and the view of the falls is spectacular. Breakfast is excellent. The pool is not for swimming but more for relaxing, very clean. Highly recommend and we will be returning.

Room Tip: View of the falls

Stay more than one night & take full advantage of all the amenities- except the spa- it was horrible for the level of service that the rest of the staff provides.

Make reservations for clay pigeon shooting, etc long before your arrival or you will get shut out.

Will definitely be back!

We stayed here for 3 nights in May, with a lovely room overlooking the 'falls'. The place was really empty, but in fairness, it was a couple of weeks before the season really started for them. They don't really have anyone to greet you when you arrive, it's very casual that way, but it didn't bother us. The room was very pretty, spacious, but the heat/air system was an issue the whole time. Opening the windows was not an option at night because the falls are so loud. The staff war friendly and helpful, the food pretty good, but it was kind of sad to be one of only a handful of tables for breakfast and a fancy dinner in the main dining room -- a big room with lots of space, and definitely made us feel like we needed to whisper. The muzak needed improvement as the dining experience was pretty dour. We took advantage of the horseback riding and it was great since we saw the countryside in the surrounding area, and the horses were gentle and well cared for. It's a private group that operates on the property, and they were great, with boots and helmets borrowed, we'd brought our own riding pants. Much fun. They have no fitness facility at all, a disappointment, so walking, running or horseback riding are the options.

We took day trips from Sheen Falls, and really enjoyed the town of Kenmare, where we had amazing gourmet dinners in friendly places, and the best quality shopping of any of the small towns we visited.

Room Tip: Pick a room not on the falls if you want to open your windows, but you will miss a stunning view.
