“Unless you love isolation don't go here”

nice people but that's where it ends. miles away from anywhere and directions not easy to follow. you pay extra for utilities - why don't providers tell you this upfront? it's misleading listing a specific price but failing to mention you have to pay extra for heating and hot water. time clock for the heating was broken and manual operation was dodgy. fireplace but with no utensils including matches! no paper to light the fire with and we had to scrounge up our own kindling. the wood box contained wood which was too big to fit into the firebox - even the owner agreed that it was too big!! we later found a shed with bags of firewood cut to size ?? TV was a disaster - host acknowledged the remote batteries were dead and it took him some time to operate the set which was out of the 1970s. bathrooms were nice and modern but no shampoo or conditioner - not even a cake of soap. kitchen had a new washer and dryer but no soap powder. who carries soap powder on an overseas trip?? the least said about the electric kettle the better - spend a few euros and buy a new one. and finally there were the midges - swarms of them - bad luck if you're allergic to their bites. and of course no internet. we paid for 3 nights but left after 2. there's got to be better places!! sorry we didn't find them.

Thank you for your review. I do regret that your stay at Feirm Cottage was not satisfactory, that you found the location out of the way and had a problem with the directions We would have hoped that the images, the location map and description would be good indicator of what a visitor might expect. On the directions I will in future include the coordinates of Feirm Cottage on follow up correspondence to guests. My apologies for not knowing about the extra for utilities, I was unaware that this information did not appear on the website and will have it corrected.
I am sorry for being ill prepared on your arrival regarding the fire & TV , however on your comment about the wood in the shed. Those bags were also the wrong size though they may have looked otherwise, they were inadvertently provided for a larger size stove. We would never intentionally mislead a guest.
The electric kettle has now been replaced.
While the WiFi is provided free in the local Pub, and all pubs, restaurants and cafes in the surrounding towns & villages, I acknowledge it is now an essential for guests and will look at how best to provide it at a reasonable cost.

“Not great”

The owners of this cottage are very nice people. On the plus side, it was clean, there's a washer and dryer, and it's very quiet. But, I hate to say this, that's where the good part ends.

The cottage is quite far out in the sticks (with bad directions to get there if you're not from Ireland), no internet, and looks and feels like someone lived in it 40 years and just moved out so someone could stay there. It's really dated. The beds are hard, the pillows are wafer thin. If you are a family of 4-6, looking for a long-term roof over your head and are bringing your own things with you (linens, pillows, kitchen appliances), I guess the price is right. If you're a couple, don't even think about it. Go into town and get a B&B for the same price. The kitchen utensils and appliances are very dated and some are kind of nasty. The electric teapot (that is supposed to be for water boiling) was black on the inside. We then turned to the stove to boil some water in a saucepan for tea but couldn't get it to work. We finally turned to the microwave. It was super dated but worked. The owners also charge separately for the electricity and oil used for heating during your stay, which for a short stay is sort of nitpicky. Why not add that into the price of the house? Perhaps a little less concern with adding a trite amount to the rent and a little more concern with updating the accommodations would be more appropriate.

Thank you for your review.
Naturally I am sorry that while you were happy with some aspects, the cottage fell short of your expectations on a couple of issues.
I regret that you found the cottage location far out. I must point out that you requested I break from the 2 night minimum stay to allow you one night and perhaps it was too short to get the benefit of the overall rural experience the area is renowned for. We would have hoped that the images, the location map and description would be good indicator of what a visitor might expect. In future I will now include the coordinates of Feirm Cottage on follow up correspondence to guests so this should help with directions. I take your point also on the utilities and agree that adding them to the price for short stays would be more appropriate.

With regard to the internet unfortunately provision to rural areas is a little complex and can be expensive. I do appreciate it is becoming a necessity for guests and intend to explore how best to provide it at a reasonable price.
In the meantime it is available free of charge in the nearby Pub and in all the restaurants, bars and cafes in the local towns & villages.

“Spacious, comfortable & great value cottage nestled in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 29 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Stayed here for a weekend climbing break of nearby Carrauntoohil with two others. Hugely cost effective and a more flexible option to booking three individual hotel rooms. Josephine (owner) was accommodating and respectful of our needs. House had three spacious and comfortable rooms with all mod cons provided. Would highly recommend for a visit to the beautiful scenery Kenmare provides. Also convenient for a trip to Killarney.

“Fantastic Countryside Cottage”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Another winner! With good directions from Josephine we found our way to this gem in the countryside. Super clean and cozy we enjoyed this wonderful cottage. Josephine was a delightful landlord, quick to respond to any questions. She gave us directions for a way home from our journey around the Ring of Kerry that led us to a beautiful mountain pass. One caution, if you are driving to Molls Gap from Kiillarney in the late afternoon you will meet many, many tour buses returning from their day's sightseeing. It makes for a very tense journey if you are not comfortable driving on the left on very narrow roads. After one time, we made sure to drive that route after the tour buses had returned. It is a beautiful ride.

I would stay at Feirm Cottage again in a heartbeat. It is exactly as it appears on the listing.

This is a rural property, you will not be walking to a store. For someone from the city, use to street addresses, the directions may sound vague, but they are right on and easy to follow. We loved it.

“Clean and cozy cottage in remote setting”
Reviewed 27 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Josephine was very welcoming with fresh bread...and typical Irish hospitality. My son enjoyed stoking the fire and we enjoyed the views. If you want a place to get away from it all and have a good view of the countryside- this place is for you. The house is in excellent condition. The local Pub is just down the road.. so you can have your beer and basic supplies... It is close to the Ring of Kerry and Killarney national parks... Just get used to driving on very narrow roads !

“Very cosy secluded cottage.”

Really enjoyed our two night stay here. Cottage is in a great, secluded location. Very quiet. You need a car. Owner is friendly and helpful. Cottage is well equipped. Kitchen is lovely, with dishwasher, loads of crockery etc. Stereo needs replacing though.

Lounge is nice and cosy, sits 5. Stove/fire is great. Hot water for bath must come from some sort of open tank as was a little green and contained a few bugs, as does the cottage, but hey this is the countryside! Water for shower was from mains and was fine.

bed was comfy. chickens came to the door, and once even came onto the cottage!

Would definitely return if n the area again. Good value, especially if with more people.
