My friend and I drove from Shannon Airport and stayed in Kenmare for one night. Our plan was to visit Skellig Michael on the following day. The location is excellent, under an hour drive to the ferry dock and also in the Kerry drive. Upon arrival at the airport, our first call was to our Skellig excursion company to confirm if weather condition was good for the trip the following morning. I had to leave a voice mail and left the guesthouse # as contact. Upon arrival at the guesthouse, we checked in and was immediately told that a phone call came in for us telling us that the Skellig excursion was a no go. We were disappointed but seeing that the guesthouse was so centrally located (right in the town square), we knew we could spend some time there. The person who checked us in was very nice and helpful. He told us that he tried to make it out to Skellig himself 4 times, and odds were all against him. Fortunately our room was only one flight up since we had to drag our luggage ourselves. We stayed in room #5. It was spacious, with three single beds and a good size bathroom. Our room view was the back of the building, overlooking our car parked in the back, right where the outdoor patio drinking area is. We ended up dining at the bar downstair, which was very convenient. The guy who checked us in was working at the bar. We used our laptop at the bar with free wi-fi. We did not have any noise issue at night. The next morning, we enjoyed a free full Irish breakfast that was included in our room rate. The same guy who checked us in and at the bar was also serving us our breakfast. When we checked out, he was also there. He offered us advice on best route to take to head to Kilkenny. AA gave us a different route. We took his advice since he said the road condition on the AA route was horrible. I had a suspicion that he was the Jer guy I kept reading about on reviews so I had to ask. Yup, I agree with all reviewers, Jer is very nice. He worked around the clock during my short stay there. He gave us a very cozy, friendly, and welcomed feeling. We really enjoyed our time there.

-Room
Very good size. We would have been very happy with just two twin beds, but instead the two of us had three beds in the room. Fortunately, we had the choice since one of the mattress had lost firmness. The in-suite bathroom was big enough for a tub or a bigger shower stall; however, the shower area was a bit tight. Our room was right over the patio area of the bar and in the back of the square, we did not find it noisy. We slept well, heat was sufficient. Hot water was also sufficient.

-Restaurant
Food was good and prices were reasonable. Ambient was nice. It was not loud at all. Service was good as well. Wi-fi was the strongest downstairs. We tried in our room but singal was too weak.

-Breakfast
Breakfast was served one flight up. We had several options, but it was obvious to go for the full Irish breakfast, which consisted of bacon (ham), mushroom, egg, sausage, tomato, toast, and coffee/tea. We were so full that we skipped lunch that day.

-Amenities
Free parking in the back (limited space), free wi-fi, soap in bathroom & shower. A small TV in room.

-Location
Very central, in the square. We walked to the Druid Stone Circle and did some light shopping around. The town is very cute.

Overall, my friend and I really liked the place. Our message was delivered. Food was good. We had a good rest. Jer was super nice and helpful. Room rate was very reasonable. I cannot think of a reason why I wouldn't want to come back again! I'm glad Trip Advisors reviewers helped me find this place! Thanks! Next time I try Skellig Michael again, I will definitely stay here again.

I booked the room after reading all of the great reviews about the place and the owners! When walking to the room, my husband was completely surprised by how large the property was (extending back so far) and how nice the room was! He said, "This was NOT what I was expecting of a room above a pub!" It was a great stay -easy to find; free parking in the rear; clean room.

We had the honor of talking with the owner, Jer, while in the pub. He offered some great advice about our continued journey through Ireland, which we took him up on, allowing us to see more in less crowded locations - and more beautiful sites we would have otherwise missed!

It was a great stay!!! Would definitely return!!!

I was very worried about noise but this place was really clean, quiet and a great location! Loved Kenmare, great alterntive to too touristy Kilarney.

Our family of five, including three young adults (19, 22, 24) stayed here for two days during swing through SW Ireland including Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. Kenmare is wonderful small town, more pleasant and less crowded than Killarney. O'Donnabhain's B&B was a great accident, chosen from booking sight, but glad we did. Three neighboring establishments on the central Henry Street are run by three siblings - all genuine, pleasant. Jer and Vanessa Foley, proprieters of O'Donnabhains for the past 15 years are very accommodating. They run a hands on business. Rooms are very modern, bright, clean, and have full baths. We booked rooms with breakfast included, which was a wonderful arrangement - home cooked irish bkfst or alternatives. Would stay here again without hesitation. Internet wireless only available in first floor hall-anteroom with tables next to pub, but worked well and very accessible.
Free parking on the street directly near the front door is convenient and safe - we had no problem finding openings.

You probably couldn't get a better location for Kenmare if you want to hit the bars in the evening. Overall, the restaurant was great. Had great food for dinner, music was lively and entertaining, breakfast was fantastic. Only a few minor issues that kept this from being a better stay... dogs barking incessantly and girls fighting in the middle of the night - not their fault but this combined with the older springy mattresses made for a poor night's sleep. The showers were luke warm - not hot and if you take a shower after others, don't expect any hot water. One other minor issue.. the wi-fi only seems to work when you are actually in the bar area. I was told that the signal wouldn't work in the rooms we were in - which was strange since we kept picking up wi-fi signals from the adjacent B&B's?? Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but would probably try another B&B next time. With a few minor improvements (hot water, fresh mattresses, and wi-fi) it could be a much better stay.
