We staying in this hotel with our tour group for a week. The staff was very accommodating and helpful in all instances. When our room seemed too cool, they brought a outside heat source. When we had the flu, they brought buckets, sheets, anything a Mom would have done to make us at home. If we had a question of where to find something in town, they were also very knowledgeable. The food at the attached restaurant was scrumptious and highly recommended. The morning wake-up calls with an Irish lilt were enjoyed, too!

We arrived at this stately old hotel on a prominent corner in Kenmare after a chilly day of touring the coast lokking forward to a welcoming reception that hopefully included a hot fire, a rib-sticking meal and some trad music. What we found was not one, but two cold fireplaces, behavior that advised us NOT to eat there, and no one that seemed to care whether we were happy with our stay or not. After waiting for a while for someone to show up at reception, a harried woman came in from the kitchen and began checking us in. Eventually someone else came along so the first woman abandoned us and the new person continued. When we asked about dining recommendations, she said the menus were posted outside the restaurants. When we asked about trad music she told us to go outside and just listen for it. Our room was stark and unloved down a below-ground-level hallway. And it smelled funny. We did have a nice breakfast the next morning and were served by a pleasant woman who also checked us out. By then, we were done with the place. Sadly, this is a beautiful old hotel -- large and grand and it could provide very special memories for its visitors -- if only someone cared enough to do a few little things to make it more hospitable and if the staff --obviously overworked -- were given some training and, possibly, a little relief.

Was in Kenmare for St. Patricks weekend, decided to dine in Lansdowne Arms Hotel and have "Bar Food". Great atmosphere in pub; welcoming staff; food was great, big sign board with daily specials and extensive bar food menu; nothing could be faulted until........ At about 4.45pm, the board with the specials was taken down, obviously we thought that some of the specials had been finished; about 10 minutes later, the exact same board re-appeared, with the same specials listed; nicely defined prices beside each item. We thought that they were just making the prices clearer to read. When we asked to see the desert menu; we were not given the "Bar Food" menu that we had ordered from, but the "Dinner" menu and then it dawned on us. ALL of the prices has shot up by € 2.00 per item; EXACT same meals in the EXACT same bar, at the EXACT same tables; served by the EXACT same staff; only exception is that it had just gone 5.00pm. There were no additional overheads to account for, so why the difference. Now if that is not rip off, then what is. If the food was being served in the dining room (which was closed at that time) I could accept the increase. Luckily, we had ordered our meal on the Bar Menu at 4.20 and it saved us € 10.00 on the transaction compared the prices of food when we left at 5.30pm. Your food was delicious, but you let yourself down badly this time. Don't Rip off your clientele; they pay your way.

The Quill Family would like to thank you for taking the time to review the hotel and for your many positive comments. We are always pleased to have feedback and we take your comments seriously.
The hotel does have a lunch and dinner service , lunch being 12.30 - 5pm and dinner from 5 - 9pm. The price change does reflect a different atmosphere for dinner service and a different portion size. Many restaurants and hotels close their kitchens between 3 and 5 to facilitate this but in The Lansdowne we prefer to have food available to our guests all day and so this runs the lunch service straight into dinner.

A nice hotel in an excellent location in Kenmare. Right on the High Street with parking at the back, this was a good fit. Room was fine, although lighting was a bit dim. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Bar food was nice and breakfast was excellent. If I found myself in Kenmare again Ill be back.

This is an excellent hotel on all fronts, clean beautiful rooms, breakfast lovely, staff friendly, handy private car park, great location, even though our room was on the main street there was no noise. If I was nit picking I would say the lock on the bathroom door was missing, but honestly everything else was top class. Great smell coming from the kitchen when we booked in as well but we had dinner booked elsewhere
