My parents and I stayed in a room at Muxnaw for 3 nights.
The lodge was charming with some nice antiques, especially the armoire in our room.
The dining area was lovely and we really enjoyed the fresh scones and marmalade each morning by the fire.
Hannah, though, was the highlight of our stay at Muxnaw. She made great recommendations for outings and was a delightful host each morning.

Just returned from a lovely stay at Muxnaw Lodge. Our hostess was warm and welcoming, the breakfast (especially the warm brown bread!) was wonderful and served in a cozy room with a view of the bay. Kenmare was charming with lively pubs featuring Irish music and raucous sing-a-longs. Our room had a sweeping view of the harbor and the hills beyond. The owner, Hannah, provide great suggestions on places to visit and a friendly guy who was on the property cutting trees recommended a pub for dinner where he, after a full day of tree cutting, was the lone waiter and bartender. Muxnaw is the quintessential Irish B&B, warm, personal, and charming, just what you imagine and hope for when visiting Ireland.

As a traveler, you occasionally strike gold when you least expect it. Searching for two rooms at 8 p.m. on a Sunday evening, we drove up the long driveway to Muxnaw Lodge after seeing an unlit sign out of the corner of our eye. We rang the bell and were warmly greeted by Hannah Boland, who ushered us into her lovely home and showed us her accomodations. She was extremely warm and welcoming.

Muxnaw Lodge, 19th century, is the former summer estate of a prominent Dublin family, so the rooms are large with huge ensuite bathrooms. The house is majestically situated on top of a hill overlooking the Kenmare river. The grounds are wonderfully landscaped. The decor is tastefully done, and furnished with lots of antiques. The bed was comfortable and the room extremely quiet. Breakfast was particularly special, served with china and silverware. We were offered a choice of the traditional Irish breakfast, an omelette, or salmon with eggs. Porridge was also offered to start, in addition cheese and yogurts.

Our only regret was that we could only stay for one night. The house is a gem, and Hannah is the consummate hostess. We visited Muxnaw Lodge in September, and outside of the July and August peak, you are likely to find the accomodation quite reasonably priced. Muxnaw Lodge is about a kilometer outside of Kenmare, so a car is well advised.

Room Tip: The rooms in the front of the house overlook the river.

We stayed 2 nights at Muxnaw Lodge on our recent trip to Ireland. Four of us stayed in two very large rooms with ensuite baths that were huge by Irish standards. Hannah, the B&B owner was our most gracious hostess. Her home is beautiful. Breakfast was plentiful. Walking into town was made somewhat treacherous due to the paving on the bridge, but I'm sure that is finished now. I'd love to go back to Kenmare and stay at least a week at Muxnaw Lodge.

My mother and I were traveling together and required two single rooms. They were both quiet, very comfortable and were slightly separated from the more spacious twin and double rooms by a small corridor which allowed extra privacy as we moved between each room. The owner, Hannah, was a delightful, warm, friendly person and the service she provided was exactly as I had hoped from an Irish B&B. The lodge was an easy 12 minute walk into the centre of Kenmare.

My sister and I recently traveled the south coast of Ireland. We staying in 5 different locations from Dublin to Shannon, Kenmare being our third or fourth stop. We tried to make our trip as cost effective as possible (less room fees=more beer), but also wanted to avoid the scuzzy places while we traveled.

I was the most pleased with our stay at Kenmare Lodge. Here, 35 euro per person per night got us a beautiful spacious twin room with a gorgeous view of the river and countryside just barely outside of the hustle and bustle of town. The house itself is an old Victoria style home and decor on the inside matches perfectly. The bed was very comfortable and the room had wonderful space for luggage, etc. The bathroom was large and there was actually an option for a bath (there is tub/shower) which was a luxury we didn't often encounter in our other B&B's.

Finally, the hostess, Hannah, was just lovely. Very sweet and helpful, and makes the best scones and raspberry jam I have ever had in my entire life!! My sister and I agreed that Starbucks has nothing on this woman. She was able to provide directions and recommendations on things to do in town that turned out lovely (Packie's....if you love food, this place is where to go), and was overall a real pleasure to stay with.

We HIGHLY recommend this B&B if you are planning on seeing the ring of Kerry (it is right there) and spending any time in Kilarney National Forest. It was a great stay!!!

Muxnaw Lodge is a lovely 19th century house situated within walking distance of Kenmare. We really enjoyed the large & beautifully furnished room. The bath was a plus. Hannah was a friendly & thoughtful host. Breakfasts were exceptionally good, & the dining room was charming.
