“mmmmm! the freshest of fish you'll ever taste”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

Coming from the foodie haven of Bray, Berkshire, we have two Michelin star restaurants and three other excellent restaurants all of 5 star quality. Well, all I can say is that the quality of the cod, smoked cod and chips with crushed peas with mint we ate at the Ocean blue restaurant was on the same par. The proprietor, Jim Birmingham welcomed us with a very warm welcome explaining that his batter is a tempura batter (very light so that the taste brings out the texture and flavour of the fish even more so), and he couldnt be more precise. Our meal was accompanied with crushed petite pois & mint and a homemade tartar sauce and capers.
The fish he receives is delivered daily from Castletownbere which explains that melt in the mouth experience.

“Cracking little fish & chip restaurant”
Reviewed 9 August 2013

On the face of it, that's all it is. But it is wonderfully put together, effortlessly. Great local produce, friendly atmosphere in a wonderful location. If you're not a snob and like good quality sea food with chips on the side, then make sure you visit whilst in kenmare. Pop over to the Horse Shoe after for a pint of Black once you're done. The owner is great character too. Enjoy

“Amazing!”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Great wee place! Quite small and intimate! I had the scampi which was absolutely beautiful! Whole family enjoyed it. Great night, apart from an irate customer that could just never pleased no matter how hard staff tried! Very friendly staff and great prices for such beautiful food!

“Best Fish n' Chips? Yes!”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

This restaurant advertised the best fish and chips on its blackboard...We tried it and the proprietor is not boasting unjustifiably. My wife had the cod and I had the plaice --- the batter was light and fresh...and everything was fried in rapeseed oil, which makes it all so much lighter.

I really recommend this Kenmare gem.

N.B.: Guinness - a must with your seafood - is available only in draft-flow cans.

“Laid back + great food = terrific”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

Stopped in on the recommendation of Irish friends and were not disappointed, to say the least. Jim was running short-handed but managed to welcome, serve and provide wonderful conversation about music, poetry, the Gaeltacht and more. The fish and mussels were extremely fresh, well prepared and delicious. Highly recommended!
