Although my heart sank when I realised there are no views worth talking about from any room, it soon cheered up again when I encountered the staff. The genuinely warm Irish hospitality they show is what really makes this hotel a winner.

The lobby and public spaces are decorated in a style I think may by trying to copy The G Hotel (in Galway city), yet are comfortable - though I could get the smell of food in the upstairs seating area, which was a bit off-putting. We were a little disappointed in our original room (the basic type, on the ground floor), but were "upgraded" to a smarter one upstairs without any fuss. Unbelievably, the hotel has a lift (elevator) - surely unnecessary when there is just a ground floor and a first floor?! When we stayed, we appeared to be the only guests under 55 yrs of age. If WIFI was available in the bedrooms I could not get it, perhaps it was available in the lobby or bar.

The other thing we really liked was the breakfast - absolutely the best I've had in any other hotel in Ireland, in terms of choice, quality (selection of local cheeses), plenty of good coffee and broad selection of hot breakfasts cooked to order. I had wonderful porridge and pancakes - certainly settting me up for the day ahead. A few small negatives - they seemed a little short-staffed at reception several times; the walk in to the town is a little longer than 10 mins (unless you walk very briskly) and a section of it is quite dark and surrounded by trees. Finally, they don't provide cover from the rain for any smokers at the tables outside, but coffee and biscuits were provided to us (free of charge) on several occasions!

We only stayed one night, but if had the time would have stayed longer. We had a nice suite with a king bed, fireplace and chairs. The linen was of very good quality and the bathroom floor was heated. We slept very well.

The staff was friendly and very helpful with good directions although the town was small.

Room Tip: Get a junior suite and you will enjoy

We booked the suite for two nights but were immediately dissatisfied with the accommodation. Foolishly we neglected to ask about air conditioning (there isn't any) and, it being warm, we would have to sleep with the windows open. Not a problem except that the room fronts a busy road. Pat, the manager, and his associate couldn't have been more accommodating, changing our suite to a "regular" room facing the back of the hotel. We slept well in the quiet, back room but the sleep quality would have been terrible in the suite we booked. The management also quite graciously allowed us to leave after one night without any penalties whatsoever. That being said, we give the property itself a two star rating because the suite was a bit tired and not worth the price. The fireplace was not in top working order and it is one of those electric models, something that should have been disclosed prior to our booking. The hotel is clean and modern, but the finishes are rather plain. We moved to the Park Hotel, Kenmare for the second night (see my review).

Thank you for your review ,I think you were expecting someting different, befroe you came to us as we are defiantly not an old world Charm hotel, We are as we say on our website a 4 star Boutique Family run hotel with real Irish Hospitality ,great food, service , and great Value .Our Junior suite is one of the most popular rooms in the Hotel We only have two open fireplaces in the Hotel ,One in Casey's and on in the reception area where we burn wooden logs and Irish Turf. The picture of the junior suite on our website clearly shows the fireplace is not a traditional open fireplace (quite dangerous in a Bedroom I suspect )It is however a modern remote controlled heated fireplace with mood effects .
Best Regards

My wife and I were several days into our self-directed driving tour of Ireland, and were starting to run out of gas...we had just driven from Dingle to Killarney and Muckross House, and looked forward to getting to Kenmare for the night...we did not realize that the N71 was going to be such a gorgeous but treacherous leg of our trip, so by the time we reached Kenmare, we were absolutely fried.

So, we entered the hotel, having made reservations literally ten months earlier, and Patrick could not find the reservations. He could not have been any nicer about it, telling us from the outset that regardless of the snafu, rooms were available. Ends up the reservations had been entered for OCTOBER instead of September, but Patrick confirmed it was hotel error, and we were OK. He set us up in an amazingly comfortable room (102), noteworthy for firm bed, nice pillows, and a large bathroom with nice tub/shower, heated floor tiles, great water pressure and very hot water. The bed was firm. Not much light, and exacerbated by the dark interior decor, but not a big deal at all. The street upon which the hotel is located has minimal traffic, and we slept with the window open.

The hotel restaurant was very cozy, and had a wonderful menu...we were so tired, we opted for the basic fare of fish and chips, but we imagine the other choices would have been delicious. Our waitress was superb, so enthusiastic and pleasant.

Internet in the room is via ethernet cable (no WiFi there, though available in a common area "downstairs"), worked perfectly. Patrick lent us a cable.

Our Garmin for some reason decided to not help us on this leg of the trip (maybe somehow related to the mountainous terrain???), and the hotel was a bit difficult to find, but the people in town were very helpful. Might be a useful upgrade to the hotel's web site to include specific directions.

After a sound sleep, we very much enjoyed the hotel breakfast, characterized by a nice spread of the usual cold choices (breads, cereals), and a full menu of hot choices including porridge with assorted accompaniments such as honey and cream (my wife's choice) or Bailey's Irish Cream (my choice)...we both opted for the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon en croute....WOW! We continued our habit of cappucinos to achieve a necessary caffeine hit to keep going for another day or strenuous touring.

In fact, we had originally planned to stay two nights, to accomplish the Ring of Kerry on the second day, but we had already toured the Dingle peninsula, and had our fill of tough Irish driving...Patrick said "no problem", so we left on the second day to head up to Cashel and Killarney.

Brooklane fully deserves the high ratings it has received at Trip Advisor...if you want to stay at a terrific hotel with great staff, then this should be YOUR choice too! Thanks to everyone at Trip Advisor who had rated this hotel highly, they were 100% correct in their assessments.

Stayed here in august while on a solo charity cycle! Arrived after exhausting prolonged cycle( went off track) and was grumpy to the poor guy behind reception when he told me to leave my bike for him to put away later! When he saw that I was not impressed he quickly put it away and was really helpful. It was a Sunday pm and he was doing reception and the bar alone! My room was good! The hotel itself is nicely decorated! The guy from reception dropped me down to the lime tree where I had a superb dinner! That is deffo above and beyond his duty! Anyway I had a lovely breakfast to my room the next morning and met a lovely woman while checking out who not only sorted out my bike gave me some cookies and scones for my journey! They were really good!! All in all great hotel and exceptional staff!!

Just like it says on the sign outside this hotel has indeed got 'really nice rooms' but thats not all. it also has really nice staff, really nice food, really nice location, really nice beds - the whole lot is well...really nice!
We really enjoyed our stay here recently while competing in a local event. The early race start meant a very early breakfast which was no problem at all, the hotel served up the nicest porridge ive eaten along with their continental buffet at 5am!! The food in the bar in the evening was lovely and the service was friendly and efficient.
A short walk brought us right into Kenmare.
some features that were advertised were not available such as - A turndown service would have been nice, as would an offer of cake on return from being out for the day but the over sight was understandible as the hotel was fully booked and busy.
I would still highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Luxury rooms were delightful
