With visiting friends, I happened across the chalkboard signage for this new restaurant whilst returning home to Kenmare “over the tops” between Lauragh and Tousist. Having noted “booking recommended” and eager to make an occasion of our last evening together, I phoned early the next morning to make a reservation.
We were not disappointed: The venue is unique, the welcome by Debra and her young assistant was warm and genuine and the vista from the enormous windows of the reception and dining area is spectacular.
After the complimentary glass of wine offered to us on arrival, (the restaurant is unlicensed so diners are welcome to bring their own wine if they wish) we found everything on the carefully compiled and unpretentious menu to be made from fresh, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. I enjoyed a generous serving of mussels to start, a main course of sea bass with roasted new potatoes and for dessert, a generous portion of two types of Kenmare ice-cream – raspberry and Baileys; delicious! To complete our meal, we shared a huge pot of strong Kenmare roasted Fairtrade coffee.
A little off the beaten track and in a unique venue and setting, Lauragh Lodge Restaurant offers a refreshing combination of high quality food, prepared and cooked to perfection, personal service and attention to detail and where the delightful ambience puts it apart from the rest.
I will definitely be booking a return visit in the not too distant future.

We recently visited Lauragh Lodge, having been recommended by a friend who had gone the week before. On arrival, we were surprised how stunning the views were, even though we knew the area well. It was a perfect setting for the evening meal, with friends and family. The menu was small but varied enough for all our group to enjoy 4 delicious courses. The pea and mint gravy with my fish was a lovely surprise. The produce is advertised as locally sourced and it was an advantage that you can bring your own favourite bottle of wine. The magic came as the sun set over the mountains.

On 2 August 2014 we were looking for somewhere different to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found Lauragh Lodge through a friend and booked. On a lovely sunny evening we drove out from Kenmare and had no difficulty finding the place due to good signage. On arrival we were welcomed by Debra with a complimentary glass of bubbly. Our orders were taken and some 20 minutes later we were seated at our table overlooking the most stunning scenery. The atmosphere was very relaxed, the service good and friendly and the food superb. We enjoyed chatting with the couple at the next table and had a most enjoyable evening. We had been advised to bring our own wine and there was no 'corkage' charge. As we left Debra presented us with a beautiful flower arrangement to celebrate our anniversary. This was a lovely touch and added to our day. We have never had anything so special happen to us before. We will be back many times and I am sure the place will go from strength to strength.

On a recent trip to the area, we came upon this newly opened restaurant. Nestled away in a beautiful setting, it was well worth the trip. Directions are better given in an earlier review, but it is very well signed, so it is quite easy to locate. We were 3 adults and 2 school aged children. The menu is limited - 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts - but there was something for everyone; even my fussy 13 year old. I believe the menu changes nightly. The emphasis is definitely on local fish, of which there is plenty, and it is fresh.

Debra, the owner and chef, warmly welcomes everyone, and you truly do feel at home. They do not have a liquor license, so you may bring your own. No corkage fee, so that is a plus!

The view, the food, the warm welcome, and a very cheap dinner at that! I highly recommend it.

With friends, we have visited this new restaurant twice in four weeks, and each time we have been impressed with the hospitality, food and ambiance. The restaurant sits amongst the mountains, with stunning views over the valleys. On arrival, we are greeted by both Debra, the Owner of the establishment, and Grainne for the service, with a complimentary champagne to be taken at the comfortable seating area, prior to be taken to our table, in front of the large glass windows which go down to the floor, so that you can take in the views. There is no pressure on you at this restaurant, where you can take your time to order, or more importantly, no pressure on you to leave. The food was delicious, freshly made full of aroma and flavours. The sea bass was particularly tasty, locally sourced. Also, it was very good value for money. This is a place for relaxation, stunning views of the Kerry mountains, in the secluded valley. It is worth a visit and we will be back. We are recommending this restaurant to friends.
