“Excellent fresh fish”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

This must be the only bar in Ireland without a TV...recommended for that fact alone !
Really nice staff who looked after us very well .Friendly and informative.
Prawns in garlic were beautiful and reminded me of Spain.
The hake was a fine piece...much larger that most restaurants serve.
Nice menu with lots of fresh produce.
This restaurant is bistro style.

“Best meal in Ireland!”
Reviewed 18 February 2014 via mobile

We stopped in for late lunch and had mussels, Oysters, French Onion soup and Crab/Prawn Dumplings. Absolutely wonderful food! They also serve freshly baked olive bread which is heavenly. Highly recommended.

“Disappointing and unnecessarily expensive”
Reviewed 18 January 2014

Based on TripAdvisor reviews and a local recommendation, our family tried Ashe's Bar and Restaurant. I was disappointed in both the food and service, but other members of my family thought it was okay.

We all had the distinct feeling that we arrived on a "locals" night. There were several good tables in the main dining area but we were seated in the back room at a small table against a wall. When we asked about possibly moving to a table with a little more space - and pointed to the empty tables in the main room - we were told they were reserved.

They were out of two of the fish selections on the menu (we visited on December 30, 2013) because they said they had not received their deliveries. My wife settled for the salmon which she said was good, but not outstanding. One son tried the Guinness Stew which he thought was okay while our other son went with the beef filet - which he said was very good. I tried the breast of duck and was very disappointed. It was overdone and poorly seasoned and presented.

The service was friendly but inconsistent. We waited unusually long periods of time between visits to the table including more than 20 minutes after we asked for the bill.

Perhaps my disappointment was because of the high expectations I had based on the reviews and recommendations I had received. Perhaps I was annoyed that they showed no interest in moving us to a more comfortable table. Perhaps it was just a bad night. Whatever the reason, it was very pricey for a very average dining experience.

“Irish Friends took us here”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

We were in Dingle for Wren Day (the "Wran") which was amazing fun. But first we stopped for a late lunch and a pint.

The Ashe's are related to Gregory Peck and there were pictures their of him visiting. We went back twice more it was so fun, the service so good, and the food was good.

Gale force winds were blowing outside this first day after Xmas (St Stephens day in Ireland) and the rain was pouring. A warm, friendly place. And as soon as we went out the Wren boys (and girls) were parading down the streets in their costumes, drums, whistles, great fun, even in the rain.

“Right on Main Street in the Lovely Town of Dingle”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

It was Tuesday October 15th and we had done the Dingle Loop in the morning. Now, we were hungry. Asked a shop keeper for a recommendation of a good local place to eat and she suggested James G Ashes Restaurant and even gave us excellent directions.

The restaurant had several small cozy rooms, one with a small fireplace and of course a typical Irish bar. Service was excellent. Owners are Thomas Ashe and Sinead Roch.

Spouse had the chowder €8.95 and I had a chicken Caesar salad €11.50. Meal came with some lovely Irish bread.
