Fantastic views from Annascaul lake and wonderful walk... not too strenuous..You can cross the whole peninsula across this path.. and finish with a nice pint in The South Pole Inn ... Pub of Tom Crean

“Really beautiful!”
Reviewed 11 October 2012

This is well worth the drive and the hike! Beautiful glacial lake with three waterfalls running together and flowing into the lake! The hike is moderate and walking sticks would have been helpful. The path is well marked and I wish we had gone earlier in the day so we could have hiked farther up the mountain.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed 21 August 2012 via mobile

Astonishing place. You can stroll into the hills or just contemplate the dark waters of the lake. About 40 minutes walk from Annascaul village or if you must drive there is s lakeside car park. You have to go through a gate and close it behind you... I think it's to keep the sheep (and donkeys) in, but it helps to mark the valley as a place apart.

“Amazing views”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

A bit out of the way, but offers some amazing views inland. It was a bit wet when we went, but amazing to see for sure.

“Easy walk, great views; here is the legend.”
Reviewed 1 May 2012

In days gone by, the lake was a meadow, where Lady Anascul and the Giant Culhane (sp?) lived and loved. One of the other giants challenged him and they hurled the giant boulders one sees along the mountainside at each other. Culhane was felled by one and looked dead. Lady Anascul fell to the ground and cried endlessly on the floor of the meadow, filling it with water and drowning herself. Culhane survived and lived for many more centuries and legends.
