“Siobhan and Michael Murphy's B&B”
Reviewed 21 July 2008

We stayed in this B&B recently and would highly recommend it. It is centrally located, very clean, decent size rooms and excellent value. The breakfast was very good and Siobhan and Michael are very welcoming hosts.

******WARNING******

This could only happen in Ireland and especially in Kerry.

There are two Murphy's B&B's in Dingle, whats worse is that they are next door to each other and totally un-related.

One is a pub with rooms upstairs and the other is a purpose build guest house above a gift shop. We thought that we had booked the pub, it's the red building in the pictures and when we went to check in, we were told we had no reservation, but to try next door. Sure enough, we had a reservation there (the green building)

The guest house is excellent, clean tidy, with great service and great breakfasts. It's quiet, apart from the crows squarking at 5am and is perfectly placed for the town and harbour. I would reccommend it to any one, although the stairs are a bit steep for the infirmed or seriously over weight.

We went in Murphy's pub for a beer and it's OK, despite a couple of entertaining drunks at the bar. Obviousy I have no idea what the rooms are like.

So, when reading all of the other reviews on this site of Murphy's, ask yourself "Which one are they talking about?"

WE, Micheal & Siobhan Murphy, own and run our Bed & Breakfst here in Strand Street, Dingle for the last 15 yrs. We are right next door to Murphy's Pub, which does cause confusion for many guests ! Unfortunately we cannot change name or our proud heritage. We do explain to our guests where we are locate and give good discreption of our home "green & white building with 2 shop units downstairs". To our future guests we hope this clears up the confusion and to all our past guests we welcome ye back !

If you are looking for a 'home-away-from-home" in lovely Dingle look no further! Your host & hostess Micheal & Slobhan will take good care of you. My teenage sons and I arrived exhausted at Slobhan's doorstep after traveling for about 24 hours and she greeted us with a cheerful smile, called us by name, insisted on carrying bags up the stairs, and gave us our choice of rooms. Ours had a small window overlooking Dingle harbor with the lovely green green green hills in the distance! I loved the activity of this location - downstairs are a few pubs, and across the street from the TI. Just a walk to everything Dingle has to offer. I hope to be back soon!

One question for Rick Steves: WHY don't you include this lovely B&B in your section on Dingle? Seems like an oversight!

Stayed here just for one night and found the staff were very nice. When we checked in we were shown several rooms and asked which one we would prefer. The whole house was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, choice of juices, cereals, yogurts, fruit and then a full Irish with toast and brown bread. Remember this is Murphy's B&B not Murphy's Pub B&B. It is next door, on the left of Murphy's Pub B&B. Overall great value would go back again.

As a group of three law students travelling the Dingle peninsula in June, we were absolutely shocked to walk into this B&B and have the owner not only great us warmly but show us a perfectly appointed triple room, for 30 euro pp! Our room looked out on the main road and further onto the harbour--absolutely lovely view. The bathroom was quite possibly the most posh B&B bathroom we'd ever seen--it was huge and even had a skylight! The owners were obviously very busy but were extremely professional, kind, and quite funny as well. There is a sweet little store just outside the front door of the B&B as well as an accompanying pub. I would highly recommend this B&B--it has remained our absolute favorite of the trip!

Named after the one on his left, this B&B offers (the green one) a good stay at reasonable prices.
Located in Strand street, in the middle of dingle town, it's really close to the pubs, shops, bus eireann station etc.
So, the only negative (it could be so for someone) thing, is the bustle coming from the pubs downstairs, you could hear it until midnight comes.
It's the same for all the b&bs in main streets.
Rooms are clean, not so beautiful, but clean and spacious.
Hosts are warm: Siobhan is a very nice and hearty woman from Kerry.
She will give you advises about "where you can hire bikes" for the (MANDATORY) tour of the dingle area, about the best beaches around (maybe Slea Head) etc.
Full irish breakfast is served. She cookes it herself, and it's good.
So what can i say: give it a chance!

Murphy's B&B is the perfect base for exploring Dingle. Our room (a double) was spacious and clean, and breakfast was delicious. The proprietors were friendly and happy to give us ideas on where to eat, visit, etc. Of all the places we stayed while in Ireland, Murphy's was the least expensive, and probably our favorite. My only regret was that we only spent one day in Dingle and one night at Murphy's. We will definitely return!
