“Quiet sleep in a country setting”
Reviewed 5 July 2014 via mobile

This is a restful, quiet Bed and Breakfast establishment. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hosts are friendly and engaging. The morning breakfast varied and plentiful. Easy walk into town, but far enough away to be in the country. Truly enjoyed our stay!

Although our stay was for only one night, we felt completely at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was superb, room was bright and airy and spotlessly clean. Stephen is a great host, recommending us to The Courthouse (Tommy O'Sullivan's) for great live music, even meeting up with us there and sharing a taxi home. Thank you and we'll be back!

The setting is spectacular with a sweeping view of the bay. Yet, it is far enough removed from the traffic and noises to present a bucolic feel. I'm an early riser, yet Deirdre was smiling and with a pot of coffee brewing. Stephen brought a copy of Ryan's Daughter to play on the DVD so that we might enjoy the local scenery. And, Seamus, the big lovable Irish Wolfhound pup provided the perfect touch. Breakfast on the enclosed sun porch was always tasty and healthy (or not, your choice)

We stayed here 2 weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our time from start to finish, it was a real break away from our busy lifestyle. The breakfasts were excellent especially the fruit selection, and the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were an ideal start to the day. At breakfast time Deirdre (our host) was often asked for advice from the others (Americans, Germans etc) and she was "spot on". Due to the fabulous weather it would have been great to sit out in the garden gazing at the bay with a glass of vino but unfortunately there was no bar - the only draw back .

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, especially when the weather is good.

We are delighted you loved our award-winning breakfasts, they are our pride and joy at Milltown House, Dingle.
And we agree with you 100% that Milltown House should have a bar, in fact a bar befitting of Hollywood star Robert Mitchum, whom you know lived here in 1969... GOOD NEWS - The bar is being handcrafted on the Dingle Peninsula as we speak and will be installed in July.
So next time you come to Dingle for a romantic retreat we will be honoured to treat you to a drink in our cosy libary bar!

I've been privileged to know S. McPhelimy, co-founder of Milltown House and extraordinary character of Ireland (North and South), for a number of years -- based on being an American-born, long Cork resident, travel writer who has been to every nook of this country almost and got to interview and befriend Steven through both on and off the job experience. When I first heard the story of him taking over this idyllically situated guest house in one of finest destinations of all of Ireland, I thought "wow, that cat has feet!" Or "How dare he?"

I will tell you why after being out that way a couple of weeks ago with my sons. Because he has imagination and insight and he has savvy and Milltown is just him. Situation exquisite, ditto breakfast with the best banana bread in world, and a cool set up even when Steven was abroad. And here's what he doesn't advertise: Wacky but nice to inspiring sea and mountain haunted pitch and putt course just behind guesthouse was a eureka find for this father trying to find joy with 2 sons in early 20s. Just perfect!

Go there.

Milltown House is charming and well-located. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and of course clean. The food was great and the staff were incredibly personable and accommodating. During our trip around Ireland, Milltown House was our favorite place to stay. Highly recommended on all accounts.

Terrific home. Dierdre and her mother were very warm and welcoming. The food was great.
Only thing I would like to see is a small bar - would have been nice to have a quiet nightcap in the public area before retiring.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a positive review for Milltown House and our excellent team.
Delighted to hear you loved your stay.
You should've asked us when you were here about the bar, as we are delighted to say work has been underway for the last month on our Library-Bar, which is being hand-carved on the Dingle peninsula by master wood-worker Caroline O'Connor!
It will be ready and installed by mid-July, so only a few weeks to go. Sorry it wasnt in place for your stay but we only purchased Milltown House within the last 6 months and getting the bedrooms up to a luxurious standard was our top priority. Im sure you understand...
Delighted to see you have booked again for late summer, so next time you are here you and your travelling partners will be able to enjoy a drink in our bar, with our compliments!
