We spent 2 nights at Leim Siar several weeks ago and count ourselves lucky to have come across this wonderful B&B. Hannah and Gerry are warm, friendly and welcoming. They have a lovely home and it's apparent that much thought has been given to providing for the comfort of their guests. Our room was spotless, large, and airy, beds comfy, and the breakfasts were delicious. Blacksod may be a bit off the beaten track but should not be missed.

My wife and I, and our 9 year old daughter, stayed in Léim Siar for the weekend of 21-23 June 2013. We were greeted by the owner, Hannah Quigley, who did everything she could to make us feel welcome. She, her husband, Gerry, and their young staff provided excellent service throughout our stay. The room was sizeable, very clean and well equipped to meet the needs of a family, with a shower/toilet en suite. The breakfast was plentiful (full Irish with scones, bread, cereal, juice, fruit etc...). The friendliness of the place led to great conversations between tables in the breakfast room, something that is not always found in such establishments. I would VERY HIGHLY recommend Léim Siar to individuals, couples, families.

We spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the June bank holiday weekend with Hannagh and Gerry. We were so well looked after and the food was great with plenty of breakfast options. Dinner on Saturday was perfectly lightly cooked and included locally caught fresh fish and a colourful selection of vegetables and floury potatoes.

Leim Siar is down at the very end of the Mullet Peninsula in North West Mayo and must be one of the remotest locations in Ireland. It is surrounded by spectacular scenery of mountain, islands, sea and sky. It is fantastic for those interested in boating, having a great pier and slipway beside it. We are looking forward to returning to Leim Siar.

We stayed in Léim Siar a few weeks ago and were delighted by the experience. We can agree with all the favourable comments in the previous reviews: the cleanliness, the comfort, the friendliness, and the food. Everything was as we expected and well worth the competitive rate charged.

For us there was an unexpected bonus: Hannah is multi-lingual and speaks Irish really well. We have spent a lifetime learning the language and she was more than willing to speak Irish to us. Not only does she know Irish well but she speaks the local dialect with the local "blas." She knows the families in the locality who make the effort to speak Irish at home and keep it going as a community language. If you know Irish and want to practise Léim Siar is the place for you.

A word to my fellow Irish-language enthusiasts:

Teach Gaeltachta é seo gan mugadh magadh. Labhróidh Hannah Gaeilge leat más féidir leat Gaeilge a labhairt léi agus a bhfuil á rá aici a thuiscint. Cuirfidh sí in aithne thú do dhaoine eile sa cheantar a chuirfidh fáilte romhat má labhraíonn tú Gaeilge leo.

Más mian leat deoch a ól i gcomhluadar Gaelach tá teach Úna in aice láimhe. Ní chloisfidh tú Gaeilge á labhairt ansin de ghnáth mar is leor duine amháin gan Gaeilge le gach duine eile sa chomhluadar a chur ag labhairt Béarla. Ach má chloistear tusa ag labhairt Gaeilge seans go labhróidh daoine Gaeilge leat. Beidh iontas ort a áille is a chruinne atá an Ghaeilge anseo i nGaeltacht Thuaisceart Mhaigh Eo.

We stopped by this B&B during a long road-trip around west-coast Irlande.
So we have seen many different kind of place and services. With this background, here is our thought on this one:

At the end of the Belmullet peninsula, in front of Achill Island, the B&B is (almost) the last human thing on the peninsula.
We stopped there by chance, wondering if there were any place to sleep here.

The housekeeper was very pleasant, spoke a bit french with us, and gave us some advices for the next days.
The B&B had been refurbished, so everything was clean and smell the fresh wood :)

Rooms were great, and the place was very quiet (nothing around except sheeps and cows so...).
Breakfast was good, not excellent, but good, and with enough food.

I cannot remember how much it cost, but the price was not so expansive (especially when you know that the closest town is at 20km ;) ).

Worth the money anyway !!

We had only just arrived and Hannah and her family felt like old friends.
What a beautiful breath of nature. Golf was our number one objective and everything else was just icing on the cake.
Georgeous setting and just plain time to relax....like the Irish have taught us to do!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the ocean.

Fantastic location, beautifully clean rooms and wonderful Irish hospitality. The location is breathtaking, remote and peaceful yet still within very easy reach of Belmullet. Hannah is such a wonderful hostess and had very reasonable bike hire rates too...the tandem ride into Belmullet was one of the higlights of our holiday!
