Visited recently with my mother and friend for lunch. Great value and waitress was very fast to greet us. Made feel very welcome. I loved the food. Had two starters as a veggie option and still not expensive.

An Ceibh is a bar restaurant attached to the Talbot Hotel in Belmullet with a lunch menu that reads a little better than your standard rural Irish hotel with lobsters swimming around in a tank in the middle of the bar. I had a seafood chowder which was not quite as rich and creamy as the one I’d had the previous evening in Brennan’s Lane in Ballina but was nevertheless nearly as satisfying. There was an abundance of seafood and an added zing from the addition of star anise (I found three in my bowl) and dill. For a main I went for the beer battered cod and chips with pea puree. The portion was generous, with two pieces of cod, but the batter was thin and light, the tartare sauce creamy, yet spicy – a very good fish and chips.

Had dinner here that was really lovely - the beef and seafood were locally sourced and the service was friendly and attentive. Our small boy was well looked-after as well. The food is a little pricey but the meal was the best we had in Belmullet. Recommended.

Thank you for your review. We are happy you enjoyed your meal. We aim to keep our prices as low as is possible, however in the current economic climate this is not always possible but as our food is all locally sourced we aim for quality of the highest standard and therefore have to pay that little bit extra for it.We are glad you enjoyed your meal!

Nice modern decor in the bar area, in the boutique style which the hotel is now known for. We had the seafood pie and chicken off the lunch daily special menu which were very nice, and we had desserts ,very nice as well , which were presented very impresively on the plates in a style that you normally only see in a top restaurant.. Top service from the 3 staff we met who made sure on a number of occasions that we were ok, and were all very friendly, and great value as well, probably the best place to eat in Belmullet.

I was here twice over Xmas 2012. First of all the good........lovely venue, atmosphere and menu. However, the first day I ordered the lamb burger with "fresh mint yogurt". When the food came there was no mint yogurt. I mentioned to the waitress who went away and brought a pot of mint sauce. I didnt mention again as it already appeared I had put the waitress out. At €14 for a burger and chips you have to get the trimmings right. Went back a few days later, this time the table beside us were giving out about how long it took to get served and when they did the potatoes gratin that were suppose to be with the steak didnt come. We then ordered the smoked salmon with capers and cream cheese.......no capers or cream cheese came when it arrived!!!
Sent it back and got a few capers and I think melted cheese in sour cream...
Come on guys - if you are charging these prices get it right!!! Could be so good with a bit more attention to detail, effort and staff training! i think their monopoly on good food in Erris has lead to complacency!

A Chara,
I'm sorry your experience wasn't up to standard, but do not fear we are never complacent.

We were stretched over Christmas between being very busy and staff being ill we had to bring in new staff who had a lot to learn and unfortunatly training takes time... you were correct, we were not up to standard. So what are we doing about it?... already we have increased staff with the addition of 3 experienced senior heads Hotel Manager, Head Chef and Head of Accommodation all in an effort to improve standards.

We're really excited about the injection of the new energy and working closely with each to ensure that next time you visit that the improvement will be obvious and sustained... please introduce yourself to myself or Tommy as we would like to get the chance to apoligise in person...

Regards,

Orla Talbot
