“A gem of the West”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

This is, without doubt, one of my favorite places to stay in the West of Ireland. We have stayed on different occasions in the past ten years and have booked rooms both in the main house and in one of the self-catering cottages (lovely conversions from the old stables) in the back- perfect for families. Susan Kellett is a gracious hostess- warm, accommodating and helpful. The home itself is a beautiful step back in history and the grounds are gorgeous. Fantastic walks all around and great fishing at the doorstep. The self-catering cottages are extremely comfortable with kitchens kitted out to enable all manner of cooking. The week we spent in one left little to be desired. Despite now having a holiday home of our own in Mayo, we still turn to Enniscoe House when we want a truly memorable escape. ~Fiona

The house is superb, so is the estate around. I don't have enough of it. However, my room, bathroom needed a good renovation and modernised a stylish way ( like castle Lesley for example). The food was also good but could have been a bit more sophisticated. The overall experience worth the visit.

We spent three nights in this fine Irish home. It doesn't feel in the least bit like an Hotel and we were made to feel like privileged house guests. I don't know if room service is available: we wouldn't have dreamed of asking for it.
Our large bedroom looked down towards the Lough and the sumptious bathroom looked out on the park. The weather was vile, but once indoors we didn't notice it, as the house is in perfect nick, warm with no rattling windows. We ate very well indeed (the breakfast porridge with cream outstanding!) in the lovely dining room.
There are great walks, golf courses and fishing in easy reach with a magnificent beach at Inishcrone.

Room Tip: We would ask for one of the three rooms looking towards the Lough

Susann, and her son Dj, provide the best atmosphere to just wind down and relax.
I love this house, I love the atmosphere and it's the fact that you leave all the silly notions of hotels behind, it is a home, and guests are made feel like they are at home.

The setting of the house is spectacular and hard to match certainly unbeatable. Lough conn twinkling in front of the lawn to the sea, the nephew mountain behind. The house is in beautiful condition and you feel welcome to relax. We felt like a guests in a comfortable home. We stayed for one night with dinner but would like to have stayed longer. There was something for everyone to enjoy. We explored the walled garden, the train, museum and loop walk. In the evening we sat in front of the drawing room fire reading some of the beautiful books and then a delicious dinner. Susan and DJ were great hosts and we will definitely be back. Our boys (4 and 6) loved it and we loved showing them something special. They will remember the train line in the front garden and walking the dogs. We loved leaving them in bed to enjoy dinner downstairs on our own.

Barbara and I travelled to Enniscoe House for New Year's Eve. We considered ourselves to be quite brave as we were going spend the evening with a group of what my daughter calls - randomers! The house is charming and cosy while being really spacious. We were given the 'Major's room' which is enormous with a great bed and an amazing bathroom. Really comfortable and you feel like you have been transported back to the 19th century.
Dinner with the randomers turned out to be a real success with double baked souffle, carrot and cumin soup and goose. We really had turned back the clock. A great evening with a group of people who had never met each other before.
We left the next morning after a lovely breakfast and it took us quite a while to get back to the 21st century.

Room Tip: Room at front have views over the lake.

We hired one of the self-catering cottages attached to the House but took advantage of dinner in the hotel twice. The house is superb with welcoming fires and historic furniture and paintings. Dinner was nicely chosen and excellent quality with a choice of two dishes as a starter, main and dessert plus a soup and cheese. The wine list was well chosen and reasonably priced.
The quality of the self-catering accommodation was very good: we had two bathrooms and three bedrooms a large sitting room and a dining room/study as well as a kitchen . Television and cd player worked well. very good laundry facilities and friendly resident dogs. All set in glorious grounds which also boast a heritage centre that can provide delicious lunches and teas. Susan the owner is very well informed about local history and DJ, her son, keeps a watchful eye on service at dinner. Difficult to fault.

Room Tip: Horse House Two is spacious self-catering accommodation
