“A wonderful stay!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2013

My husband and I had a really wonderful stay at Brigown B&B for two nights. We loved the location, set in a quiet spot outside of the center of Ballina on the River Moy. Our room had a view of the river and of the Belleek Woods. Marjorie greeted us warmly and had chocolate brownies and tea waiting for us that she made that day. The breakfast menu was very extensive and every thing was excellent. Sitting at the breakfast table both mornings was just a delight and the surroundings impeccable! Our bed was very comfortable and there where fresh flowers in our room. If we go back to Ballina, we'll be staying there again:)

Marjorie gave us a really warm welcome. The rooms were clean and spacious and the food was really great! We loved our stay and would highly recommend Brigown as an excellent B&B to anybody with a great value for money.

Brigown was billed as a cookery school B & B. Not so. The owner teaches cookery classes. Her breads and cakes were lovely, but her scrambled egg left a lot to be desired! Would have preferred cooked tomatoes, rather than raw. Salt was solidified in the cellar. What was with the cooker in the dining room?
The decour is dated and the rooms were in need of a good hoovering. The blankets were doubled over, which wasn't a good idea, as they just rested on top and didn't tuck in, leaving me feeling cold. The beds were not aired, even though the radiators were on, it was still very cold.
The dog tapping around in the timber floored room above us was a pain too, as were the human footsteps.
A bit more attention to detail and a good cleaning wouldn't go amiss.
Lovely location and nice and quiet.
Not great value at €40 each B & B
May be better in Summer time.

Brigown B&B enjoys an elevated site overlooking the River Moy estuary, five minutes drive from
Ballina town, Co. Mayo. On the other side of the estuary are the deciduous woods and river walks in the grounds of ancient Belleek castle, a very worthwhile visit and very popular and inviting. Ten minutes drive North lies the beautiful and spacious beach of Enniscrone, Co. Sligo
where one can walk for miles or swim or windsurf or just enjoy the plenitude of sky and follow with a visit to the incredibly relaxing seaweed baths in the village itself.

A visit to Brigown itself ensures a surfeit of hospitality and charm from Marjorie, the proprieter.
I stayed there for two nights at the August weekend 2012 and had a very satisfactory experience overall. Marjorie herself is a cosmopolitan woman who is very assured, welcoming and hospitable. She was informative of the local area and proved helpful and relaxing throughout.

I found her cuisine to be of the highest order, a cut above the standard B&B fare, the food menu is quite extensive. This is fresh, home cooking at it's best, try the smoked salmon with
scrambled egg. Believe.

Marjorie and her B&B are both wonderful. She's a delightful lady, so friendly and chatty. Just the right personality for running such a business.
I was amazed at her attention to detail, evident throughout the house but especially in the presentation of her delicious food. We had an amazing weekend and the next time we're in Ballina, we'll definitely stay with Marjorie.

WOW, Marjorie knows food. If you stay at Brigown you can expect to be warmly welcomed and expect to have the best breakfast in Ireland. The room was spacious and comfortable, the view from the breakfast room lovely. If you want to stay where you feel comfortable and extremely welcome. You can look no further than Marjory's lovely home.

Truly, I have dined at the table of the Gods. Simple ingredients served with passion and flair. Marjorie has an understanding of food that comes straight from the heart. Other cooking establishments will serve food that will nourish the body, but breakfast from Marjorie's table will nourish the soul!!. I stayed three days and had different breakfast every day. From the silky smooth smoked Salmon and scrambled egg to the most sublime kippers I have ever eaten. Then came the speciality - Pancakes. A beautiful infusion of sweetness and simplicity.
The toasted homemade bread served with Marjories own preserves while looking out over the River Moy would rise anyones spirits. Marjorie is a remarkable lady with an enthusiasm for cooking that is infectious. The accomodation was perfect for my needs. She has a local knowledge of the best fishing guides or the best places to hike or cycle. This is the hidden Ireland that so many seek out. Lovely seafood resturants locally.

Room Tip: The house is on an elevated site away from a quiet road. The rooms are very quiet and adequate for t...
