We have just spent the weekend at The Ice House in Ballina and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My wife had wanted to go to the hotel for a while as she had heard good reports, and we were not disappointed. We stayed under a living social deal which was very reasonable, however given we had to pay a €50 supplement to stay on the Saturday night, I don't believe I would like to have paid much more.

The hotel is small but intimate and beautifully decorated. We stayed in the Sapphire room which had a fantastic view over the river, and was clean and tidy and well finished. If I was very critical I could argue that the room needed a coat of paint, but that would be very harsh.

We ate in the hotel for both lunch and dinner on the Saturday. We ate from the bar menu at lunch and the food was good and well priced. At dinner we ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent.

On the Sunday evening we walked down the street to Crocketts on the Quay and had dinner. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. The bar was busy with a great atmosphere so would definitely recommend it if you wanted to eat away from the hotel during a stay.

Overall we would definitely return to the hotel if we were looking for a relaxing break. The staff made our stay very comfortable and couldn't have done enough for us. I would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to stay in this hotel.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this wonderful hotel. I stayed in the still suite and the only way to describe the room is amazing. Beautifully laid suite, balcony is an added bonus. The huge bed was so comfortable and the linen was a very high standard. The suite Looks out directly over the River Moy. the hotel restaurant has a 5 star menu, with a superb choice of dishes. They are able to accommodate special diets without any fuss. Staff so attentive and very helpful, but not over bearing or in your face. They made us very welcome. Hotel amenities and spa just add that extra touch of luxury. The whole team create a wonderful atmosphere for all the guests to enjoy. I Will be returning for another visit.
I would recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.
Thank you to Ken the manager and all of his staff for making this visit so fantastic.
Well done the ice house!!

We stayed at the Ice House Hotel Ballina, last Sunday and Monday 24th and 25th March. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the River Moy just outside the town of Ballina County Mayo.
Our bedroom overlooked the river and we had fascinating views of the tidal changes and varied birdlife. Our room was very comfortable with all the usual mod cons. The restaurant also overlooked the river and served very tasty food with plenty of choice. There was a good selection of wines to complement the food and a comprehensive cocktail menu. We also sampled the bar food which was also of a very high standard. The staff were obliging and friendly from reception to waiting. Overall a very good experience and would recommend. Just a couple of points. With so much of the hotel overlooking the river it is important that the windows are spotless..not easy but worth it. Also with a hotel of this quality a gym is normally standard. Keep up the good work and best wishes.

Room Tip: No fitness centre, no pool. The emphasis appears to be on the spa treatments but when we tried to bo...

I visited the Ice House over 6 years ago, when times where a little better and I'm very happy to report that the prices have come down but the standards have been maintained.

The staff throughout our stay where just wonderful, especially the night porter (I wish I knew his name now). We ate once in the restaurant and had a lovely meal, though if you are on a budget the meal we ate on the second night in the bar was equally good, the fish'n'chips were huge, beautifully presented and delicious.

We opted to stay in the Heritage Suite which was just spectacular (if you are into that kind of thing, maybe not for those who like things a bit more modern) with stunning views over the river. The bath tub is amazing! It is the first time I've ever stayed in a room that looked just like it did on the website. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the old with all the modern comforts you'd expect. I'd read some negative comments regarding these older style rooms and I think it is really just a matter of taste. My friend and I loved it.

Keep up the good work :) Can't wait to go back again!

Had a lovely weekend in the Ice House hotel. The bedrooms are possibly the nicest rooms I have been in, beautiful comfortable bed with a fantastic floor-to-ceiling view of the Moy. Nice big bathroom as well. The dinner was nice, overly generous if that is a complaint. Breakfast was excellent. Would recommend this hotel.

Stayed in Salmon room. Room was very dusty and needs repainted. Shower control had a large gaping hole in tile. Bath leaked all over floor. Plug sockets now attached properly in bathroom. Switch for bed light also sounded as if it was about to shock you when operated. Food is excellent but rooms need some tlc.

We were interested in seeing here so as we were near we decided to go and have a look. It is quite small in size and the layout was quite different you had to walk through reception to get to the spa if you took a wrong turn. The setting is lovely. We decided to have a coffee while we were there. We had scones with the coffee which were well presented but the scones were overlooked. On our way out we decided to get a brochure for the hotel but we were told that they don't really have a brochure only for the spa. The staff were very pleasant.
