“Not Great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

Stayed here as part of a group on a hen party and i think we were given the worst rooms in the hotel as im sure the perception was that we were on a hen we would not care what kind of accomodation we received. They put three of us to each room and charged €180 per room which was an absolute joke considering the standard of the rooms.. The rooms were completely dated and our bedroom window opened out onto a rooftop where a dirty pair of runners lay outside the window for what looked like weeks probably. The staff were not over friendly or accomodating. Breakfast was only so so, were made to wait for 20 mins before our order was taken and another 15 for the food to arrive. Some of our party missed breakfast but when they came downstairs at 11am they could not even get a cup of tea as the bar was not open until 12, i find this very strange, maybe its just me?!

Would definately not stay in this hotel again, nor would i reccomend it to anyone

I stayed here with my son for two nights during the Easter break and loved it. The hotel is run by very friendly staff, food was gorgeous and the location was great for exploring the sights. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone. Will be back in the very near future.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a great view!

We booked this break and got a room with t.v not working and ?'spit' on the walls Yuk! Back to reception and got a different room that looked much cleaner T.G. One problem was a ? fan going all night in attic ? air con or fan but didn't get one full nights sleep while there! Great break???
No major evidence of hotel professionalism - i.e. you could walk in from street for breakfast - no-one checked room numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Staff not well directed, managed,or led!
No - one asked or cared if everything was ok with stay.............
Hair dryer didn't work; Tv didn't work - obviously no check lists done! Toilets off bar offensively smelly - Bar - expensive with no major atmosphere - made feel it was nearly too much trouble to be served................

Room Tip: Review room on admittance and ensure you're happy!

I booked a 2 night stay at this hotel for my Parents for a Gift for Easter, sending them on what i thought was a well deserved break to a highly recommended hotel. I had booked the hotel online over a week before their stay and telephoned the day before their arrival to confirm payment was taken so that they would not be given the bill. On arrival at 6.45pm they were told there was no room for them, that the hotel was fully booked! The staff didnt explain nor apologise and the manager would not come to speak to them. After nearly an hour and my parents refusal to leave without their money back (as the rooms were prepaid) they were then offered alterative accommodation for 1 night and to come back to the hotel for the 2nd night, which my parents were not happy with. They were not offered any explaination as to how this had happened, no compensation for their disappointment & inconvenience especially after driving 3 hours to get there. The only thing the staff done was eventually offer to put them up in another (sister) hotel for one night, which in my opinion was the very least they could have done when i had the accommodation alreday paid for. I nor any of my family would stay here again, especially after the poor way the situation was dealt with.

I was fortunate enough to stay at the front of the hotel.
Decor - good
Clean - yes
View - yes

The first room they had shown me was - DREADFUL!!
It didnt even look as if it was a part of the hotel.
Dont settle for the BACK OF THE HOTEL - it is dire!
Ask for a room up front

Room Tip: All said above

We have stayed in The Holyrood Hotel on many occassions now and can reccommend !!The staff are most pleasent , helpful and friendly at all times be it night or day. The breakfast and dinners offered in the package deals are great fare and more than adequate in portion size. The rooms are what I would expect considering prices ...not plush but not poor in standard.... Leisure centre facility is great and children are treated with same courtesy as adults which is marvellous for families. Nice entertainment in foyer during holiday times provides kids & parents with a very enjoyable and relaxing pre-bed experience. WELL DONE EVERYONE AND THANK YOU ...we will return

Room Tip: prob best o ask for room not near disco at week ends!!

The enterance to the hotel should have been a clue of what was to come, with broken panels in the front door. My allocated room (room 110) was a complete dump. The carpet was stained, the wallpaper wasn't just lifting, it was curling back, and looked like it had been like that for a long time. My main problem with said room was the the window opened to an opposite, and was a terrible FIRE HAZARD. I went to reception, and the nice girl at reception offered me another room, which wasn't made up, this room wasn't much of an improvement. The kind receptinist gave me a key to look at another room, which we settled for. But for 80 euro for B&B for two people (which is what other NICE hotels charge) I did expect a lot more.
