We just love staying here. Had a problem with noisy guests on one of our stays but staff rectified same. This is the only place we will stay. The staff, ambience and location are first class. Kerli is to be highly commended for her professionalism but all the staff are excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed my week-long stay at the Portmarnock Golf Resort... the spotlessly clean room had beautiful views of both the golf course and the Sea, and it was very well-maintained each day. I was especially impressed with the breakfast that was provided each day as part of our package! The desk and dining staff were friendly and promptly responded to any needs we had. The highlight was playing golf on the splendid golf course on our last day... wish we could have stayed longer to play another round! I would recommend this great hotel to anyone...

I am a Portmarnock native and stay here when I visit my brother and his family. First stayed here over the Christmas period last year. Had a deluxe room for a relatively good price. The room was large , bit too big really. On the ground floor so the view of the car park. Go for the 3rd floor if you can.The room was fine though a the odd problem getting the air con right. The staff sorted it out quickly.
Breakfast, they key factor for me, was fine. A large selection to suit all tastes, the breakfast room is quite stylish.
Restaurant and bar are both fine, food and service are good.
Have played the course but in a gale force wind which made it unenjoyable. Better links courses in the area
All in all would rather stay in the old family home but it's a this hotel does the job

Room Tip: Call the hotel and book directly. Avoid the ground floor rooms.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We booked a deluxe room and that's exactly what we got. It really was very luxurious with all the little things looked after extremely well. I would recomend a visit here.
Food and service was faultless. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Sea view in the new wing.

Deluxe rooms are luxuriously fitted out and provide an extremely comfortable and relaxing ambience in which to enjoy a peaceful break. The only disappointment was that the pillows provided in our room were thin and hard and this significantly detracted from sleep quality. Watch out for the room description on the web - unless your room faces the sea or the golf course, the "panoramic view" is of the hotel's internal courtyard and nice though it is, it may not be what you have in mind when you book a seaside break. The food at the Portmarnock Hotel is fabulous and service throughout the hotel is extremely prompt and courteous - although the Reception staff are a little too keen to recommend the local taxi firm for any and every journey. In fact, if you don't have a car, you can travel around Dublin Bay easily and cheaply using the local bus service and/or the DART train service. The seafront walk between Portmarnock and Malahide (approx 50 mins) is to be recommended. Malahide is a haven for foodies with the Cafe Provence worth particular mention for a delicious breakfast menu with healthy options.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea facing room to get the most from your break

stayed here with wife and my parents for a 2 night break. Got a good deal to include breakfast, 1 evening meal, welcome drink and late check out. Glad we got an upgrade to deluxe room. Saw a standard room and it looked tired and dated. The deluxe rooms we were allocated were clean, fresh, contemporary. Nicely furnished with plenty of space. Staff all very friendly with nice bar areas and the food was quite good. Nice location too with direct acess to brilliant beach.

A few minor niggles prevents an even higher rating. First niggle is that we were allocated disabled accessible rooms (parents have mobility issues) and the rooms were as far from the reception/lifts as it's possible to get - so quite a push for my mum in wheelchair. I'm sure there may be closer disabled rooms and they were probably already taken, but our experience was that the rooms we got with disabled access were the furthest rooms away - doesn't make sense. Also, not the entire hotel is really acessible. There are internal lifts but they don't service - for example - the restaurant which is down6-7 stairs. We were acommodated by being granted access via a usually locked rear door -fine but not the way guests should enter the restaurant.

Other suggestions I have is that the upgrade to deluxe rooms means you get better decor/furnishings but (unlike most hotels), it does not include things like better toiletries (quality and choice - only shampoo & shower gel supplied), face cloths, bathrobes, slippers or even biscuits with tea tray). It would also be helpful if the rooms included some/any information on local areas of interest/things to do etc - it's a lovely area but there was absolutely no material in the rooms to promote it.

The extractor fan in bathroom didn't work, there was no light above bathroom mirror - bathroom was very dark with low lighting and with no light above or near the mirror, shaving was more of a challenge! There was a fridge in the room - but again it didn't work either. We didn't need it but these are simple issues that should be identifed and fixed when rooms are being prepared.

These are all relatively minor issues and none of these are in any way deal breakers.

Would I return to the hotel - yes I would and the points above are intended to be constructive. The hotel could do even better with a little more attention to detail.

Room Tip: ask for seaview room and some have balconies so ask for one of these also
