My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights this Easter. We played 4 rounds of golf in the mornings. Every morning we put out the sign that the room was ready for service. When you play golf it is important that your room is ready again so you can rest. After complaining for 2 days housekeeping finally understood the point.

The rest of the hotel was very friendly. The service in the Jamieson Bar was brilliant. We had our lunches (after golf) there and some dinners. The menu is small but large enough to satisfy us for 4 days. The bar was very busy most of the time as was the rest of the hotel.

The weather was windy and cold all the time, so we could not use the lovely garden. But the garden outside of the bar should be very nice on summer days.

We stayed in a seaview room (224) which we liked. The beds were good with a nice big duvet. The window could have been bigger since the view to the sea was very nice.

For golf maniacs they showed golf on TV in the room. The had all the Sky sport channels so nothing was missed.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room

My boyfriend and I stayed here over Easter for the 2 nights B&B, 1 dinner& bottle of Prosecco on arrival. This was priced at €125 per night so not cheap if you ask me. We paid extra for a Deluxe room with sea view. The room was nice, basic not exactly what I would describe as deluxe but then again I didn’t see the standard rooms. The view would have been nice had we been able to see through the windows. I can easily say I have never seen dirtier windows (refer to pictures). I know the sea air would cause the windows to get very dirty but in that case I would expect the windows to be cleaned more regularly to compensate.

The information booklet in the hotel room told us about their cocktail bar and serving times. We thought we would sample its delights on our first evening. Got to the “Cocktail Bar” only to be told they didn’t have a cocktail menu but could “maybe rustle up “ a Long Island Ice Tea and two other basic cocktails ( none of which we would drink). Didn’t sound like much of a Cocktail Bar to me and whilst we were still pondering the barman added “oh and we don’t have any lemon or Lime for the drinks”. At this point we left and went to the other hotel bar, The Jameson bar, hoping for a bit more success. I asked for a gin and bitter lemon, of course no bitter lemon, so I took tonic instead and we sat down, the atmosphere was non existent so we finished our drinks and went back to our room.

Evening number two and all things aside we were very much looking forward to our 4 course meal in the restaurant. The menu was not great but to start the ball rolling my boyfriend asked for the chicken dish to be told there was no more chicken left. Ok not to worry he ordered something else. We waited over an hour for any sign of mains, this was after we saw two guests who ordered after us being served chicken! Couldn’t believe it! We enquired as to where the chicken miraculously appeared from to be told “someone else had cancelled chicken from the Jameson Bar menu” this still didn’t make any sense but what can you do. Anyway when the mains finally arrived the pasta was clearly not properly cooked and the fish was totally uninspiring at this point we gave up and asked for the manager. We left our meals (practically untouched) and advised we would not be paying, the manager removed them from our bill but now it was 9:30pm we were starving and had to try and get food elsewhere. Thankfully my boyfriend had not had anything to drink whilst waiting over an hour for the food so she was able to drive us to get a takeaway! Not ideal but no other restaurants were taking bookings that late.

Breakfast in the morning was dull and very basic, no fancy breads or pastries just slices of bread to toast, wheaten or croissant. Limited fruit salad no blueberries or anything to sprinkle on your cereal. Approx 4 cereals to choose from, bacon was always undercooked and very greasy……………overall like the rest of it, nothing special.

We booked this hotel for a few days of relaxation and a bit of luxury but I think it is only really suited to golfers. There is no swimming pool or Jacuzzi, so I don’t really think it qualifies as a Spa without either one of these elements, more a Beauty Salon. The only plus side were the reception staff, pleasant and very helpful when I was booking and checking in! Disappointing is how I would describe our overall experience of this hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments regarding your recent stay here with us. We take your constructive feedback regarding our food and beverage outlets extremely serious and we want to thank you for highlighting this to us. Regarding the appearance of our windows, we take on board your feedback, but as you rightly say being beside the sea and exposed to weather it is extremely difficult to maintain 24 hours the appropriate standards.

We certainly would like you to return to Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links and we apologise that we did not meet with your overall expectations.

Kindest Regards,

The Management Team

Stayed at the portmarnock hotel for a wedding last weekend. It's a very nice hotel and good value for money. We were allowed to check in early free of charge and the staff were very polite. The rooms are very roomy and very well decorated. The breakfast is very good with a good selection. The service and hotel and room were all very good. My only niggle would be that there were no extra pillows and there were not enough towels for two people sharing. Would def recommend the portmarnock hotel for a stay and for a wedding reception.

Stayed on Easter Sunday night - one night for 2 people was only £74 including breakfast - room was spotless and comfortable - breakfast was buffet style but very fresh. Music in bar at night was great and prices of drinks very reasonable.

Location is super -- 9 euro in taxi to malahide and short car journey to Dublin -- or get taxi to malahide and dart to Connolly station.

This is a great hotel with really great staff - reception - bar- restaurant - breakfast - cleaners

Room Tip: I had a garden view -- it was good enough for me but there again I don't go to hotels to look ou...

Myself and 7 of my girlfriends stayed in the hotel early in December on a Groupon voucher deal. It was fantastic value. €59 for 2 people b&b and a bottle of Prosecco. We arrived on friday afternoon and booked a table in the restaurant for dinner at 7. The dinner was adequate, they got a few of the orders wrong but took some of the starters off the bill for the inconvenience. We then went to Gibneys of Malahide where there was a great atmosphere. When we came back to the hotel there was a sing-song in the residence bar which was great fun. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, the staff in the hotel especially the receptionists were very obliging. The rooms were well equipped with very comfortable beds and the sea views were exceptional. We golfed the next day, great course and will definitely come back. It is a great hotel to unwind and if the deal comes again we will be booking again.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are lovely.

Due to the last renovation this once old dated hotel has definitely won. Rooms a bit squeezy though but good and of temporate style. Wifi, Sky Sports and Golf Course around the corner. Should you be after a good round of Links Golf, this is a place worth the money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurants plentiful at Malahide, just a 3 km ride by car.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a sea view...
