My wife and I took a short break between Christmas and the New Year to Portmarnock Golf Links hotel just outside Malahide and we had a very enjoyable experience and a great time.
On our arrival we were warmly greeted and asked about our journey to Portmarnock (the weather on the way there was teeming rain and gale force winds), how we had enjoyed christmas and if we had any special requirements before being swiftly checked in and given our room keys.
We had stayed there before and they had even remembered our previous request for a room that was within a short distance from reception, all very professional.
The room was really beautiful and had a fantastic view overlooking Portmarnock Bay as well as being very well furnished. They even arranged for the weather to change and we awoke on Dec 28th the sun was rising over the bay and was breathtaking.
On the first morning the restaurant was extremely busy and after only a few minutes delay we were shown to our freshly prepared table, the waitress was very warm and welcoming and pointed out all the different food options available to us. Fresh juices, cereals, yoghurts, dried fruits, seeds, a wide selection if breads and a great hot breakfast option, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed by my wife and myself. We spent the day in Dublin and dined outside the hotel that night but had arranged to dine in the hotel restaurant (The Ormonde Brasserie) on the Saturday night and here we had a beautiful 2 course meal from their special offer menu which included a bottle if wine for only 45 euros for 2 persons, great food & great service. We followed this by visiting the Hotel bar where we enjoyed some fantastic entertainment to round off a great evening.

Room Tip: It may cost a little extra but ask for a room with a sea view, really worth it for spectacular view...

Although it is only a few hours since my new husband John and I left Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, following the hosting of our wedding reception there, we wanted to take this time to send our huge appreciation to the hotel and its entire staff. In the lead up to the wedding the hotel have been fantastic, however it was on the day itself that all staff – every single staff member we came in contact with – absolutely went above and beyond and completely exceeded our expectations. The food was absolutely delicious and no request we had was an issue – from ensuring the room temperature was changed after our guests built up too much steam on the dance floor, assisting our family, who were doing speeches, by being posed and ready to play background music on cue, to accommodating guests that wanted to keep a discreet sing-song going until the early hours. Our guests have spent this morning saying how they’ve found the venue, its staff, dinner/ evening buffet/ breakfast and rooms to be of a really high standard. Whilst the hotel are naturally going to do well with such stunning surrounds for Brides and Grooms to have their wedding photos taken (and great views for guests from the rooms) and with rooms that maintained to such a high standard, it is a testament to the warm and friendly staff they have, which I suppose isn’t hard to get when you’re based in a really warm friendly village like Portmarnock!!!. We’re really delighted with how everything went on our wedding day (and both before and after) so thank you again. As you might be able to tell we very highly recommend it!!

My daughter was married at this resort in November 2013 and we were very pleased that she chose this location. The room rates were very reasonable and our seaview room was beautiful! The beds were the most comfortable one we had during our 2 week stay in Ireland and the U.K.

We had been in Ireland for several days already and had learned that restaurant service is very different than in the U.S. There was a mix up in the restaurant when the bride, mother in law and myself were to have afternoon tea but the resort made it right.

The wedding coordinator was very good, venue was beautiful, and the food, service and decor at reception was lovely.

We did have a very bad experience in the on site spa which had my daughter in tears. My manicurist was very sweet but the manicure lasted barely 2 days. My daughters tech was extremely brusk and downright rude. I have written the spa but, to date, have received no apology or even acknowledgement of my e mail.

Bottom line, stay here, enjoy the beach and comfortable beds but give the spa a pass.

My wife and I stayed here on a saturday night in December for a night away and we will definitely be back. It is a great hotel in a stunning location and the service was very friendly from start to finish, particularly the local lady who checked us in and out.

Our deluxe room was very comfortable and had everything that you would expect from a hotel of this quality. We had a snack and a couple of pints in the Jameson bar and the food we had was very tastey.

Greatly enjoyed stay. Hotel did very well on all aspects of service. Room was very clean. Restaurant was excellent. Staff are very well trained. Proximity to beach is great. Great views from all rooms.

Room Tip: Most suitable for golfers. Non-golfers then short 1-3 night stays.

What can I say. A fantastic hotel which obviously still prides itself on excellent service and friendly staff. I just came back from spending a weekend here with a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the room, the overall decor of the hotel and the location. But the thing that really stood out was the staff's positive and friendly attitude. They couldn't do enough and even got involved in some friendly banter at one point. The bar staff in particular were excellent. Food also rated highly. The free bottle of Prosecco was a lovely touch. I will be recommending it to friends and will hopefully be back at some point.

Room Tip: Some rooms seem to come with a fridge and others don't. Might be worth asking for one if its som...
