“Beautiful location and great food”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

My husband and I stayed here and at another hotel when visiting Ireland for the first time. Although the location is a bit far from Dublin, it is beautiful! The hotel food was seriously the best food we ate while in Ireland. We had tried several well-recommended and up-scale places (mostly in Dublin) and this was by far our favorite. We also had a room at the very end of the hall that was very large and had panoramic view of the golf course. Would stay here again!

Just returned from a 3 day break, arriving on new years day. We have always stayed in central Dublin on previous visits, but took the opportunity to book a discounted offer at Portmarnock, which turned out to be a great decision. Our room had a sea view and it was great to listen to the waves rolling in at night. The service was excellent, not one member of staff failed to be helpful and our evenings in the Jameson bar were great. Breakfast was excellent and again perfectly orchestrated by the very outgoing supervisor and her attentive staff. The area is quite stunning and nearby Malehide has some excellent eateries (would recommend Nautilus - quite expensive compared to other nearby restaurants, but the food and presentation is first class). We had to leave for an early flight and reception staff were right on the button again, arranging for a sandwich box to take away as we were too early for breakfast.
Well done all at Portmarnock, we shall definitely return.

Room Tip: Sea view recommended

We stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend. We had booked a deal via the hotel website - which offered us great value. Not having stayed here before I wasnt quite sure what to expect. However - we were very impressed. I had asked for a quiet room - and we were allocated one of the larger rooms at the end of a corridor, with a view onto the golf course- perfect, and also given a bottle of prosecco.
The room was clean, beautifully decorated, large with a wonderful bathroom with both bath & separate shower.
All the areas of the hotel were clean with fresh decor- unlike some other hotels nearby where the corridors and rooms show signs of wear and tear.
One of the most pleasant things about this hotel is its staff. Every single employee we met was friendly, helpful and patient. All of them have excellent customer service skills. Whoever trains the staff here has done a wonderful job.
Would we stay here again - absolutely.

Stayed in the Portmarnock Hotel for two nights just after Christmas. This is our third stay and will certainly not be our last. The hotel has all the mod cons and is comfortable. We had a family room with sea views and we could hear the ocean at night - just lovely. We ate in the hotel on both nights and they provided me with gluten free bread which was a large bonus as I often have difficulties finding somewhere that provides gluten free choices. The staff even toasted the gluten free bread for me in the mornings - how good is that. Some staff that we would like to give a special mention are Mary Joe, Jurek and the staff in the Jameson bar. Many thanks for a wonderful stay and hopefully we will be back soon.

I stayed here from 27th December until 3rd January 2014
My sister had her wedding there on the 27th December and I have to say all the staff made it a very special memorable day thank you
In fact all the staff from check in to waiters to bar staff in the Jameson bar were excellent and a credit to the hotel I would highly recommend this gem of a hotel and would gladly stay there again
The rooms are comfortable and modern with amazing views of the ocean
Well worth a visit

My wife and I and two friends have just returned from the Portmarnock Hotel. From the minute we entered the hotel, the service and hospitality was excellent, the reception staff were so helpful, the bar staff so friendly and the restaurant staff the same.We had a lovely room overlooking the sea .The food in both restaurant and the bars was of great quality and the portions were very generous. We only managed one round of golf and this without doubt is one of the best courses I have ever played, the greens were in superb condition, but the bunkers "took no prisoners".
I would recommend this hotel to everyone who enjoys first class hospitality in a hotel, in a stunning place .We will certainly be back later this year.

Room Tip: beautiful views from the seaview rooms.

We stayed in the Portmarnock Hotel for New Years and had a very nice stay. The hotel has a charming old part which was the manor of whiskey distiller Jameson. Here you will also find the hotel’s highlight, lovely Jameson Bar which we frequented quite often for dinner and/or drinks.

The location is great! Even in winter the sea makes a beautiful backdrop and invites for a walk. There is a lot to do, if you want to venture out as well:

• Take the coastal walk to Malahide (about 30 min), especially on a sunny morning.
• Visit Malahide village and its Castle and Gardens. Either walk or take Bus 32 (stops in front of the hotel and runs every 30-45 min).
• Take the train and visit fishing village Howth and its great restaurants right at the pier. The cliff walk must be absolutely stunning in summer. The train station in Portmarnock is rather far away to walk though, you’ll need a car/short taxi ride. The train runs every 15-30 min.
• And finally: Visit close by Dublin. Take Bus 32, it stops in the city center of Dublin. The ride takes around 40 min.
