We have stayed in this hotel many many times, it is like a real home from home. This time we took our children and grandchildren and they have raved about it since. The rooms are really beautiful and comfortable. One reviewer referred to there being no safe in the room. This must be due to the standard of room as we have always had a safe in our room. There is so much to do in this area - excellent transport links into Dublin city centre and further afield or take a leisurely stroll/ brisk walk / run into Malahide and visit the castle and grounds and do a spot of boutiques shopping - nor forgetting the wonderful beaches and sea. It is so exhilirating. A quit drive into Howth and walk up around the head towards Dublin Bay - what more can you ask for??? As for the Hotel- the food, rooms and ambience are first class. It is difficult to single any particular member of staff as they are all so courteous, knowledgable and helpful. However, being greeted by the lovely Rachel on arrival was a terrific start to our stay. We had a beautiful family room for our daughter, husband and their children overlooking theses with a lovely balcony and our room had a wonderful view overlooking the golf course and again we had a lovely balcony. All the staff are truly wonderful and the housekeeping staff couldn't be more helpful and work really hard to make our stay enjoyable. If you haven't been yet then give it a go- you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea or golf course and if having dinner in the lounge (restaurant doe...

We loved our stay at this lovely hotel. The hotel is beside the golf course and the water is right behind the lodgings. There is plenty of parking, large enough spots to accommodate the challenge of driving on the opposite side of the street from the opposite side of the car. Malahide was just up the road and the bus to Dublin stopped in front of the hotel. Our rooms were immaculate and the included breakfasts were hearty and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with the friendly bar tenders at the on-site pub and found prices to be very reasonable for a pint or two. We got lots of help from the front desk staff (Theresa was especially helpful) regarding bus lines and proper etiquette when boarding the bus. As an aside, I wonder why no one informed me of the dangers of ascending to the top floor of the double decker bus when it lurches forward! :) A fun time was had by all!!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. It was our first visit to the area. The reception area of the hotel, the common areas, bars and the rooms are all very good. The only item missing from the rooms was a safe
One area of the hotel which lets it down badly is the front of the hotel/car park. The whole outside of the hotel could do with a good power wash and tidy-up. Cigarette butts etc lying around the door and entrance pathway do not give a very good first impression. The worse aspects are the skips / recycling are in the car park just opposite the hotel building entrance and the general waste bins etc which are also stored just beside the entrance to the hotel. The weather was warm and there was a slight hint of odour from that area. Also the bins must have just been emptied as a large area of the car park was covered in "bin juice".
This may all sound really bad but the hotel and staff are excellent. If they would only do something with the entrance/car park area.

We will return and bring friends with us the next time as we enjoyed our stay and the surrounding area/beaches etc

We decided to stay here instead of at a Dublin airport hotel. Having had a long trip through Ireland we wanted to have our last night be nice and somewhat distinctive- as opposed to just a generic corporate airport hotel.

Portmarnock fits that bill nicely. Has a nice seaside location (though no surf when we were there- very low tide so not the "crashing waves" we were hoping for). We had a Sea View Family Room and it was quite spacious with a great bath and shower in the bathroom.

Was just 12 min from the airport, with a Texaco on the way for filling up the car. So, it was really almost as convenient as an airport hotel. I don't know if they have an airport shuttle but they might. If not, there were taxis waiting outside, even in the early morning.

There was a nice breakfast included as well.

overall, a good place, and would recommend it on your way back to Dublin airport. Of course it has its own advantages as a golf resort as well- being close to the airport isn't its ONLY benefit!

Room Tip: Get a sea view room

Being a hotelier it's never easy to enjoy nights away as I over analyze everything in every aspect of the hotel.
Quite frankly I was delighted that for my birthday I let my boyfriend take care of things. To start off I had no clue where I was going and where we were staying. He brought me to Portmarnock for one night and it was perfect. Check in was efficient and information was provided for everything we needed.
The room was spacious with a beautiful view of the local beach - we were lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful weather and the tide was out so we didnt think twice but to take a romantic walk on the beach.
One thing I have noticed and something I usually have an issue with (but not this time!) is that the amenities in most hotel are cheap and crappy and do really remind you you're not home to use your favorite cosmetics. As always we went away straight after work and I was dying for a shower. The conditioning shampoo in the bathroom to my surprise was excellent and did not leave my hair all dry, tangled up and impossible to comb! (Well done)
One thing that did surprise me is that there was no iron in the room, but once we called it was delivered immediately.
The bed is huge and comfortable - best bed i have slept on - including my own!!
This hotel is clean, spacious and as per cost i cannot comment as this was a birthday getaway.

We did not use the bar/restaurant so I cannot comment on that.

A nice touch is that we ended up going out that night and didnt wake up until 11.55 (check out is at 12) and first time ever housekeeping did not bang on our door to get out.

I'm glad we stayed and I'd definitely recommend this hotel to my fellow hoteliers who are also lovers of Trip Advisor :)

Room Tip: I'd be a treat to overlook the beach - always a nice view to wake up to!

Ten of us golfing friends from Norway stayed for 6 nights at this lovely hotel. It is a very pleasant building located beside the sea which has fabulous beaches and a links golf course which I thought was brilliant. The hotel room was nice. Clean, not big, but big enough. A very comfortable bed. There was only a small window that could be opened and it was very hot weather. It was hot at night in the room as there was no air conditioning.

The food was excellent. The menu was a bit limited but it was really nice. Malahide is only a short taxi ride away and there is a very good choice of restaurants there. The breakfast was really lovely with a wide range of hot and cold food. All of the staff at the hotel were really friendly and helpful. There were staff from many countries there and they seemed happy and were very chatty.

The golf course was very good. The greens were superb although I still missed a lot of putts. The weather was brilliant with temperatures in the high 20`s. I was disappointed to find that there was no drinking water on the course. I am sure that it would not be difficult to have a large boittle of drinking water available even if it was in a cabinet accessed by the input of a code. The changing rooms for both the men and ladies were of top quality. After a hard few hours on the course in hot weather, it was lovely to be able to shower and change befor a pint of Guiness in the bar. Between the golf shots, take a few minutes to look at the views and the wildlife.

I loved the hotel and hope to return one day.

Room Tip: Excellent links golf course
