“Ok course, little stuffy there”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

The course was ok, our caddie made it a better experience. A good course to take a break on as is not that difficult. The course is private and the staff outside of the pro shop staff not very friendly and seems to be general attitude to those that are not members there. Would probably pass on this course next time and find better option.

“Old Course and it's Playable”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

Well at least there's NO Dunes and gorse that eat golf balls like popcorn! It's flat and well laid out a TRUE links experience. The golf shop experience is nice and friendly … the starter gregarious and helpful … there's LUNCH INCLUDED (a bowl of Irish Stew) … and then there's the golf. The fairways run out … your ball better find the middle … the traps are ever present (fortunately they're OK to get out of) … the greens large and fast … did I mention there were 'gale' force winds blowing? Hey you're in Ireland and the weather can change in the next 15 minutes! No I didn't score well … but at least I felt I played a truly magnificent layout someone much smarter than me figured out how to make someone think his/her way around a golf course. Buy the course guide/or a caddy … and think about your next shot … don't just bang it! Well done. Now can you just tone down the wind? … lol

“Play an Old School Links Course”

A truely magnificent links course! This course is a difficult links course with stunning views of the sea and the bay area.Played with a very knowledgeabl and efficient caddy which helped a lot.
Gorgeous Clubhouse with a lot of memorabilia, always woth a visit, although not a cheap round of golf.

“Superb golf experience”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Portmarnock is quite simply a national treasure. If you play golf and want an enjoyable challenge you must play this course. It's not "stunning" from a visual perspective when compared to Ballybunion or some other leading links courses but each hole is uniquely challenging.

We had a nice lunch in the clubhouse before playing and the staff in both the restaurant and pro shop were very friendly and helpful.

Will definitely play again.

“Sneaky Mis-selling”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

On a quick visit to the pro's shop whilst passing Portmarnock GC on a holiday in Dublin, I purchased a couple of momentos. When I later looked at the credit card receipt, I found that they had converted the euro charge into sterling. I was not asked if I wanted to do this - in fact I always choose the foreign currency and am therefore subject to the MasterCard conversion rate which is always better than the rate imposed at the merchant outlet. Very sneaky treatment!
