Owner description: Malahide Castle & Gardens is a beautiful & historic medievel castle, with a facinating story dating back to the 12th Century. Located on the beautiful north coast of Dublin City Malahide Castle was once owned by the Talbot Family for nearly 800 years and is one of the longest owned castles by one family in the country. Set on 250 acres of stunning parkland, Malahide Castle is also home to one of Ireland’s four botanical walled gardens with 5000 species of plants inculding a wonderful collection from many Southern Hemisphere countries. Guided tours of the castle take place daily from 9.30am all year round. Our friendly and informative guides bring to life the story of the Talbot family during the 45 minute tour through the main reception rooms & bedrooms. The modern & bright visitor centre is home to the garden exhibition area and gives access to the Talbot Botanical Walled Garden. Avoca Cafe & retail is located in the visitor centre and is a treasure trove of wonderful gifts.

Nice place for picnic on a bright sunny day when it is not too windy. The castle is just okay, you can avoid it but the gardens are pretty nice to enjoy the sun.

This is a nice place to visit if you have a lot of time in Ireland. It's not the best castle by far, but if you have free time it's an enjoyable day. The inside is quite small, and not worth the entrance fee in my opinion, however the grounds are beautiful, and it's a nice place to spend a morning, and the grounds are free to visit.

Not far from Dublin City this tour is ideal for any traveller who is pressed for time. The castle is still in its original form and has magnificent lush and green gardens. The tour is very informative and takes you back into history. Amazingly the keepers and historians have done an excellent job in preserving the artefacts. The gift shop was disappointing in that one would think that the castle would be something they would have as a souvenir, unfortunately not. Overall a good option to consider for a quick and worthy tour if you looking for originality on history.

I recently went on a tour of the castle ( 17th of may 2014) and I found all the staff so pleasant and welcoming. The tour of the castle was of excellent quality and the castle was in spotless condition. We were well greeted upon arrival and I learned so much whilst on the tour. I would definitly recommend it anyone visiting or looking for a day out in Dublin. Thank you to the staff for a great day out.

Malahide Castle offers a great day's outing, easily accessible from Dublin City yet in a sylvan setting with a colourful history stretching back 800 years.. Whether you're a solo traveller or part of a family group, you'll need plenty of time to sample all its delights. The children's playground has a section for smallies and more adventurous offerings for older children, so allow for that in your schedule especially if the sun shines. The play area is edged with woodland walks, a delight in themselves. Maybe break for lunch before the rush- Avoca cafés and restaurants have an enviable reputation wherever they exist, and the value is fantastic also with an excellent child menu. Take the Castle Tour after lunch, and hear some of the ghost stories as well as more gory details of its fascinating history... To complete your day, stroll the beautifully restored Walled Garden before sampling the quality souvenirs in its well stocked shops. Sorry, I didn't take note of things like wheelchair access. But as I said- a really great day out.
