The castle itself is not an impressive place but the whole estate is worth visiting. It has an expansive garden estate around it and beautiful. There is a bit of haunting history associated with with the castle. Guided tour of the castle is a better as it helps to get you acquainted quick. Its easy to get there via DART and has good facilities for family to visit. If you are inclined to bicycling, you can hire one to go around.

Very nice spot for families, you could easily spend the whole day here (weather permitting).
Very nice playground suitable for all ages, zip wires, big climbing ropes, huge slides, sand pits, etc.
We didn't do the guided tour but im told it's definitely worthwhile, the castle and gardens are immaculately preened and very clean, the visitors centre and information desk was nicely laid out and there is even a rent a bike facility available. Avoca cafe is lovely and plenty of space but it is on the pricey side, the kids meal was good value but I'd say a family of 4 for lunch would cost appx €40.
They do have a big selection on the deli counter if you get a sunny day there is plenty of space for a picnic .

Great afternoon. The tour of the castle was wonderful and the visit to Howth was unique. Our guide, Eoin was very informative and entertaining.
