Really grotty and smelly. I think they try to mask the smell of must and smoke with strong air freshiners. You can feel you shoes stick to the carpets as you walk. Room was horrible. Constant noise of a compressor going all night. Person tending to breakfast was the most ill mannered person you'll meet. Breakfast was all over cooked and dried out. And to top it all on checkout they try to rip you off with charging for bar items you have not got and by mis counting you money if you pay be cash. NIGHTMARE, STAY AWAY

we booked 4 rooms at this hotel as we where attending a wedding. The rooms where so small and scruffy, the worst we had ever stayed in.The views from the rooms where of a wall. This is not a hotel,it is a pub with rooms above it [next to a very busy restaraunt, ].our room was opposite the loos, and as we had a 2 year old and had to vacate yhe public areas for 9 o clock was a very noisy evening stuck in a warm grotty room , Certainly not suitable for kids. The breakfast was so small, the sausages had gone off, and all our party was ill for the wedding! WE COULD NOT GET AWAY FROM THE PLACE QUICK ENOUGH WHAT A DUMP!

We stayed at the Island view for 2 nights. There is not island view from the rooms, by the way. We found this place in desperate need of remodeling. Everything felt and looked old...and not the good kind of old. The room was huge but the shower was terrible. Our room was fortunate enough to be on the back alley where the delivery trucks started arriving at 6:30 every morning. The room was expensive too - 100 euro per night

Everyone at the hotel, including the restaurant seemed to absolutely hate their jobs. We found them very crass an unaccomodating. Pat at the front desk, however, was wonderful.

There really is much that Malahide has to offer. I would not recommend staying here or in Malahide on your visit to Ireland. Stay in Dublin instead if you are considering this place

Just returned from 10 days in Ireland, most of which we were based in the lovely village of Malahide north of Dublin. We stayed for three miserable nights at the Island View Hotel. Room 2 is next to the entrance to the restaurant and directly opposite the restrooms. The double doors leading to the rest of the rooms squeaked loudly. We immediately asked to change rooms, but were told we had been given the best and biggest room because we were to be there for three nights and no other rooms were available.

It was impossible sleep due to noise until 1:30am and then awake again at 6am, when the morning crew came to work and started banging pots around (the kitchen is across the hall as well). Thin walls and a 2" open gap at the bottom of the door did not help. The beds must have been 30 years old - very hard and lumpy. The switch for the bathroom fell off the wall the first time I tried to switch it on - on the second morning, the light was flickering off and on. Although we informed the front desk about the light, it was not replaced when we returned late that night, so had another morning showering in the dark - which was better than constant strobe-lights!

This hotel is way overpriced at 100euro/night for two people. Breakfast was included and it was okay - orange juice, cold cereal, toast and cooked Irish breakfast are the options. The desk staff was friendly but seemingly unable to solve the problems. Do not stay here if you can help it! I highly recommend the Grand Hotel Malahide, where we stayed the last two nights of our trip.
