We recently visited the Castle Hotel in Macroom for our 25th wedding anniversery. Staff realised it was our wedding anniversery so they upgraded us to a contempory room with jet bath, and HUGE bed. The food was fabulous. Good to know all produce was stated as Irish. The staff in reception and through out the hotel were extremely helpful as we were new to the area and they were able to give us lots of helpful info on places to visit and things to do.!!!! I would recommend the castle Hotel to anybody looking for a nice weekend away..well done to all who make the hotel welcoming and unique place to stay..:)

We were expecting a lovely 4 star, 2 night stay. When we arrived at the back of the hotel, I was disgusted how you enter a long hallway, with no elevator, stairs up and carpet that is definitely in need of replacing. There was no disabled access, so they would have to go around the front. We got our keys and got the lift up to our floor. The chlorine from the swimming pool was very strong and the smell lingered in the corridors.

After passing 20+ bedrooms we eventually got to our room. 'God almighty'.... the bed covers were the old fashioned flannel material, with a sheet underneath. I was shocked. We had the same carpet and furniture that looked second-hand mahogany. The bathroom was ok with a speaker which let you hear what was on the TV. We had 5 channels and the TV was an old-fashioned one. No pay per view here (what we expect for 4*)!!! The mattress was hard and we didnt sleep well. You have to pay 5 Euro a day to use their internet, then allow an application onto your PC that has no firewall. Fab!!!!

Breakfast - awful. I asked for pancakes with maple syrup, so did some Americans sitting beside me. They were awful, rubbery texture, god I feel sick remembering that one.

Anyway. This hotel really needs to get with it, review their hotel. Maybe it is great for locals that have nothing else to do but for tourists they really need to improve. If they are trying to go for an old Irish theme, they have got it totally wrong. I would suggest the management go and stay in another 4 star hotel in Dublin and review their establishment.

This was my second stay at the Castle Hotel, Macroom. We arrived early on Friday and were greeted warmly by Trish and Vicki at reception. We enjoyed a relaxing coffee and cake in the Next Door Cafe, and later spent hours relaxing in the pool. Our room was beautiful and very quiet, with both still and sparkling water in the room.
We ate in the bar on Friday night and in the restaurant on the Saturday, the food was delicious and the staff were the perect mix of professional and friendly. We were able to relax and enjoy our evening without feeling rushed, the bailey's coffee I had was the best I've ever had!
I cannot wait to return to the Castle again. I'm already hinting at the online vouchers for Christmas!!

Stayed in the castle for a one night break in mid august and have to say that once again it exceeded our expectations. once we checked in the reception recognised us from a previous visit 8 months previous!!!! . had a meal in the bar and was really really nice . Bar was very very busy but yet you got the sense that the servers had time to "chat" to guest if needed . breakfast following morning again was up to the usual high standards . room's were spotless clean . in my view this hotel stands out from the crowd .... it has a good retention of staff who are always willing and friendly and is what i would describe "a hidden gem". we are already planning our next trip and to be truthful we cannot wait

I booked this hotel when I saw the website and the location suited (as my family needed accomodation near Dunmanway for the Munster 100). It appealed, as it was four star and they offered a good rate for the family. We stayed last weekend with our two boys and overall we were most disappointed with our stay. To be honest, I genuinely cannot fathom how they got four star rating as I have stayed in far nicer 3 star hotels. They do put bottled water in rooms, and have nice white full fluffy towels, but apart from that.... there was no four star treatment.
It is an old hotel, retaining a lot of the old world features with old meets contemporary style small foyet.
The room was pretty basic, cramped and definely not four star. One of my sons had a camp bed despite booking a room with Double and two singles, When I pointed this out to the staff I was told that it wasn't an ordinary campbed, it was a 'hardy' type suitable for adults to sleep on. Well perhaps adults of small stature, as it was only 5 feet in length. The sheets were well worn and limp, not crisp or fresh (our sheet had a hole in it). The beds have old wool blankets which are quite itchy through the thin, worn sheets.
The toilet didn't flush properly which meant we had to fill the paper bin with water and use it to throw down the cistern to flush.
We found most of the staff to be really nice and friendly, however I found it really embarrassing to be reminded numerous times, that we 'were on a package deal', or 'special', which was said in a tone of distain as if we were parasites (and said loudly in front of other guests).
When we entered the restaurant the Waiter took some menus then asked if we were on a 'package deal' and then changed to different menus. Despite that, I must say the food was lovely though!
There was a problem about the restaurant charge as we were lead to believe that the 'package' which included one evening meal for the adults, was extended to the children for an extra charge, (as was the case in other hotels we stayed in last week). however, I was told that I must have misunderstood! In fairness once the manager was told, he rectified the situation and cleared the charge.
The pool and surprisingly the Jaccuzzi (which should be really warm) was very cold. The pool area itself looks rather nice but is disappointing when you can't enjoy it for shivering!

Bar food prices are really expensive. The hotel have a note written in residents rooms asking guests not to mention the 'R' word as they want us to relax and forget about the depressing Recession. Its a great pity they don't cop on to realize that we are in a recession and their prices only remind us of how difficult it us for us to get away for a break without having to constantly watch the finances!
Overall, Im terribly disappointed and won't be doing a return visit.

This was a last minute booking. We recently spent 3 nights at this hotel - couldn't speak highly enough about it. Small family-run hotel - great food, comfortable surroundings and such a friendly, hardworking and welcoming staff (so rare to find these days). Our stay was so cheap as we were availing of the supervalu breaks and, on checking out, we were given a "winter warmer voucher" which entitled us both to one free night accommodation. It was such a central locaton - accessed Kenmare, Killarney and lots more. What a bonus to have a lovely leisure centre attached - will definitely be returning!

Mary and Tom - very satisfied Tipp customers!

We had the pleasure of a two night stay this week and it was a lovely experience. From the minute we arrived the staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The food is outstanding with an extensive breakfast menu and fabulous evening dining. Pancakes for breakfast and tiger prawn skewers for dinner were to die for. Thank you. We will definitely be back
