This was our second visit to both Clonakilty and restaurant An Sugan. We didn't have far to go as we were staying next door at the Clonakilty Hotel, (they also have rooms here and they look nice and quirky). The restaurant was busy as usual even on a Wednesday and there was a birthday party going on at the rear, thankfully not too noisy)! Seafood is always on our agenda in Ireland as I believe it has some of the finest and freshest anywhere in the world. We shared a plate of oysters, simply done in their shells smelling and tasting of the ocean, just a splash of Tabasco, nothing else needed, beautiful! Then we both had the hake which was so fresh and tasty and the mash and veg was full of flavour. The owner is hands-on and its fascinating to watch him effortlessly delivering the food orders cracking a few jokes (mainly to himself)! Around £60 with 3 glasses of House White, once again a lovely visit and we will be back!

The atmosphere was fine. Food was tasty but not particularly memorable. I had fish pie which I thought would have a pastry 'lid' but seemed similar to my husband's seafood chowder only thicker and more expensive. I also had the sticky date pudding which was nothing special. Overall a pleasant enough meal.

We stopped for a late lunch and were initially the only folks in the place, and we even asked if they were open (yes). The oysters were amazing, as was the seafood pie, and the tasting plate, and the beers, and so we left refreshed and full. Reasonably priced and good service provided.

I stayed here for a night in Early August 2017. The rooms are separate from the Pub itself and extremely quiet. You check in at the bar and then walk up a side street through a large black front door which then brings you into the house. There is a large lounge, dining room and hallway. This leads up the stairs to you room. It was beautifully decorated, with high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows. Lovely soft furnishings, tea and coffee making facilities along with an en-suite.

Oysters followed by Plaice with Prawns and White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake. Light dishes with interesting sauces. Delicious.
