Reviewed 10 May 2014

I stayed here for 1 night this week and was very pleased with my choice of accommodation in Clonakilty. My double room was spacious, clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom. Check-in is in the bar next door and this did not take long. An Sugan is perfectly situated in the heart of the town and within walking distance of all I wanted to see and do. On the morning of check out, I had a nice Irish breakfast, the highlight of which was the homemade brown bread. This was soooo good. Shame they don't sell it in the B&B as I would definitely have bought a loaf or two to bring back home with me. I would stay here again.

Wonderful place to stay. Good sized clean room with comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with good choice of food. Denny provided great service and has a brilliant sense humour. The resturant has great food - can recommend the deep fried Gubeen Cheese. Definitely recommend this B&B

Over all a very good place to stay in. Very willing to assist you in your needs. Food is excellent and staff do not hover. You are left to enjoy your time and meal. Small few things could do with an upgrade. Like the menu in the room and the carpet is due an upgrade soon. Other than that no complaints.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Room was spacious and clean. Also nice & quiet - just off the main road so no noise from street, but close to the rest of town Shower thermostat needs to be checked as water was a little luke warm (bit better 2nd day).
Full cooked breakfast each day was really good with the famous Clonakilty black pudding done perfectly. I'd personally prefer chunky sausages though. Lovely wheaten bread & cafetiere coffee set us up for the day.
Also enjoyed the front lounge with interesting photo books about Ireland to peruse.
We had a couple of evening meals in the restaurant which were excellent "gastro pub" style food. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Various room types available including family rooms, so they should be able to cater for you.

Thank you for your excellent review and for staying with us. We greatly appreciate your feedback and will address the water issue (the tweaking in old buildings can be tricky!). Clonakilty black pudding is also one of our favourite delights on the menu and we are so lucky to have such high calibre food right here so close to home! We love to serve local fantastic food to our guests. We look forward to welcoming you back.

I spent 5 nights here on a social visit to Clonakilty. Despite it's central location just off the main thoroughfare, this B & B is quiet and restful. The guesthouse is very well managed, immaculately clean and the staff are attentive and responsive. The breakfast includes interesting choices as well as the usual "full Irish". As a vegetarian, however, it looked as though I would have to settle for the home-made brown bread, and the yoghurt and home-made fruit compote with granola. Instead, each morning, I got to sample Irish artisan cheeses with home-made chutney. What a treat!
The restaurant, An Sugan, is charming with a cosy fireplace, interesting antique decorations and a robust gourmet menu of locally sourced fish, cheese and meat.
I would not hesitate to stay here again and to recommend it to my friends and family.

Room Tip: The room at the back was very quiet.

I spent two nights at An Sugan with a friend for a social visit to Clonakilty. The location could not have been better for what we wanted, just off the main street and easy walking distance from all pubs and restaurants. We had breakfast on both mornings and the choice and quality were excellent, along with the service (Denis is eccentric and entertaining but also does a great job). We didn't eat in the restaurant as we wanted to try others in the town, but from what I heard from other guests the food and service was every bit as good. The room itself (room 5) was clean, large and comfortable, if a little on the chilly side (Denis switched the heating on when we arrived but the radiators only reached a warm temperature). We didn't mind this however as we spent little time in the room other than sleeping. The bar was quiet and friendly but only had two beers on offer, namely Guinness and Heineken. I think this was down to the fact that the emphasis seems to be on food rather than drink... which is great if you want good bar food without the rowdy nature of a regular pub.

I will definitely return to An Sugan next time I stay in Clonakilty and would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Room Tip: We had room 5 at the top of the house - quiet, spacious and comfortable... but ask them to switch th...

I stayed here for a weekend at the end of September. The location was very convenient and I felt very welcomed by all members of staff. The room was very comfortable and clean and had everything I needed. I had a cooked breakfast both mornings which were delicious. Overall a very pleasant stay and I would recommend staying here.
