“A comfortable reasonably priced hotel in a beautiful location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014 via mobile

While our room and bathroom were a little on the small side, and the appliances ancient (the TV didn't work, but that was OK!), the beds were comfortable, and the view gorgeous. A short and picturesque walk along the harbour wall from the centre of the very pretty, and hilly, Kinsale was nicely fuelled by the excellent breakfasts included in our 3 night stay, a very good midweek offer. Smoked salmon and a variety of cheeses with brown bread offer a lovely alternative to the hot breakfast menu, which my daughter assured me was very tasty (having tried everything on it!). It is a great base from which to explore West Cork, and Kinsale itself is worthy of a day's exploration, with good restaurants and the most wonderful farmer's market, as well as lots of pretty little shops and great walks with lots of historical interest thrown in. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, and though the car park looks small, we had no trouble parking there when returning in the evening. Bar food available at the hotel filled the gap on our arrival on the first evening, but I would recommend going further afield for a true West Cork culinary experience. A nice hotel, we would consider it again as a midweek break.

Dear Mesomama,

Thank you for your review of your recent midweek break with us in the Trident Hotel.

I am delighted that you and your daughter enjoyed your stay and that the breakfast set you up for the day.

I am sorry that you had a problem with your TV but hopefully you found enough in Kinsale and the surrounding area to keep you busy. We are fortunate to be situated on the harbour and within easy reach of all the lovely shops, cafes and galleries - not to mention pubs and restaurants!

I hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back again soon.

Kind regards,

Hal McElroy

Im not sure the Trident is a 4 star hotel but it is certainly a good 3 star hotel. Check in is professional but I was not able to access their wifi for a few hours and then it seemed to correct itself. Ask for a room that faces onto the river for spectacular views but as others have mentioned, as it can be easy for people outside to see into your room if you are on the 1st floor, you have to close the curtains so a small investment in net curtains would be a very good idea. Room rates were also good value including breakfast and free WiFi.

Room Tip: Dont stay on 1st floor as people outside can see into your room and ask for a room with a river view...

Dear Rory,

Thank you for taking the time to review your brief stay with us in the Trident Hotel.

I am sorry that you had some difficulty with the WIFi, I was not aware of any difficulty or loss of service during your stay. I am glad that it righted itself soon after.

Thank you for your kind comments about our location, standard and value. We will make sure to put you on a higher floor should you return in the future.

Got a good deal including 4 course dinner in the hotel restaurant which was gorgeous, the food was fantastic! Hotel room was a slight let down giving the hotels 4* star rating. The room was ok but the decor was a bit tired. The windows are huge and do give a lovely view of the arena but if you don't want to be seen in your room by anyone outside you have to close the blackout curtains. I can't understand why there isn't some net curtain or voile to let the light through whilst keeping some privacy. TV was also very old fashioned. Nice hotel overall but small issues like these take from what it could potentially be.

This hotel is in the perfect location! The staff helped me to find a perfect running route by the sea, plus you are in close proximity to shops and restaurants in town. The staff was helpful andv we couldn't have asked for a better stay!

Very nice! This hotel offers a great location and friendly staff. The hotel is very modern and had great views of the bay. The only issue we had was with wifi, which could have been attributed to the weather.

We stayed 2 nights as part of a tour group. This was our first trip doing the bus tour thing, we usually stay at B&B's for the warmth and personal attention. I can tell you the Trident Hotel made us feel as welcome as any B&B! Check in was organized, efficient, and our Failte was warm and heartfelt. The facility is modern, clean, and the art work is from local artists, and a nice mix of media and nautical themes. Our room faced the harbor with a big clean picture window, beautiful view, and the sunrise was stunning!
We had breakfast in the Port of Call, nice seating, views and service, the the Irish Fry was yummy. Our dinner in the Wharf Tavern was delicious, the seafood absolutely fresh and prepared well. We stayed for the craic and music, and had a wonderful time.
The Irish hotel "resident bar" concept is something that should be adopted everywhere! We had a great time meeting up with friends "after hours", and our host that night took good care of us, as well as the rest of the hotel. Well done, sir!
We look forward to staying at the Trident again in the future. when we return to wonderful Kinsale.

Dear Cathy,

Thank you for your very positive review of your recent visit to the Trident Hotel.

I am delighted that your enjoyed your stay and that you found the welcome warm and personal. We pride ourselves on our great and attentive staff.

You seem to have found some of our 'hidden' or not so hidden 'gems'. We have some lovely contemporary artwork around the hotel and the night bar is one of the cosiest I have ever been in!

Your breakfast would have been in our 'Pier One' reataurant and as with all the rooms in the Trident has a wonderful view of the harbour (except the residents bar for some reason!). I am pleased that you enjoyed your meal in our Wharf Tavern which is one of the many good resaturants in Kinsale serving excellent locally sourced food.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
