“Very good and friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

We did not have a reservation but got a last moment choice but nice room for one night for 120€ with breakfast. We enjoyed the location close to Kinsale marina and a few restaurants. It was also convenient for city exploration and walking distance to main attractions of Kinsale. Free WiFi. We were satisfied with our stay.

We stayed at Actons several years ago prior to the refurbishment and we were impressed with the improvements. The hotel is very well located and our room overlooking the harbour was comfortable and spacious. My only criticism would be the door opening into the bathroom meant you had to be something of a contortionist to get in and out!
The bed was large and comfortable and there were tea making facilities but no safe for secure storage of valuables.
The shower was excellent and there was a good supply of toiletries and towels. Breakfast was very good and extensive with a range of specially cooked items to order, including harbour catch of the day that when we were there was grilled plaice - very different for breakfast but healthy and tasty. The smoked salmon was delicious and you could easily set yourself up for the day on the breakfast - service was very friendly and efficient.
Parking can be tight due to the health club visitors and other events but it does thin out after peak periods.
I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable bar prices for the house wine and all in all I felt our stay was good value for money. If visiting Kinsale again I would have no hesitation in booking Actons as we had a very comfortable stay in a delightful Irish town. Well recommended.

Room Tip: Go for a harbour view room if views are important to you.

We stayed two nights and were happy with everything. It is in a good location for walking to the downtown shops and pubs. Breakfast came with the room and gave us a good start to the day. No complaints, just a very nice place to stay in Kinsale.

Actons is so well located within the delightful town of Kinsale in County Cork.
Since reopening last year after a major refurbishment the hotel has maintained it's traditional Irish ambience, however it is sad that the restaurant no longer opens in the evening, on the other hand it is understandable given the wide range of restaurants within very easy walking distance of the hotel. The rooms are comfortable, make sure you get one with a sea view, and quite well appointed, the bar is pleasant and the staff helpful and efficient.
Actons being in Kinsale is well located to explore the surrounding countryside from Killarney to Blarney, Limerick and so much more. It's a great place to go for a break, the only difficulty can be with the inadequate parking, especially if there is a function on and the Leisure centre is in full swing

Room Tip: Go for sea view

We wanted to be able to park the car and do a pub crawl in Kinsale.
After we heard a local band at Blue Haven, we stayed there until the band quit playing instead of making the rounds. The location allowed us to stagger back easily.
We had a very nice room overlooking the harbor, bathroom was really nice and clean with rain shower head. Felt luxurious-nice linens.
The worst part-my drapes didn't close completely, allowing the 5am sunshine into my window!
The best part-gourmet breakfast cooked to order! Eggs benedict with fresh herbs in the sauce. Waffles so crispy I don't know how they did it! Great place!

We were thrilled when we arrived to find such a tastefully designed hotel, clean and modern. The female receptionist was nice, handed us our key and sent us to our third floor room. We had booked a Deluxe Harbour view double room and spent the extra money for "a room larger then superior room, spacious room with harbor view, en suite bathroom, hairdryer, multi-channel TV, free Wi-Fi, iron and ironing board, radio, room safe, tea and coffee making facilities. Sounds great, right? If you look at the photos on-line you will see a large window, with two nice lounge chairs to sit in and enjoy the view - fabulous, don't mind paying the extra money for that! Well, we arrived to the room, photos attached, and I returned to the front desk as surely she did not know we booked a deluxe room. I was told no, I was in a deluxe room....how can that be? The room was tiny, the window was small and we only had one lounge chair. On returning from dinner I looked at the exterior of the hotel and noticed most of the windows were large (like they show on their website for the deluxe and superior rooms) - again I went to the front desk to say they had given me the wrong room, I also noted to them that it did not have an iron & ironing board, or room safe as noted on my reservation. I was told the deluxe twin rooms are shown on the website and the doubles do not have a large window, also none of the rooms have two lounge chairs as shown on the website. I felt that I had been deceived into paying more for the benefits I did not receive. It is sad, because this otherwise would have been a very nice hotel. We had no issues with breakfast but did with the fellow who checked us out in the morning. He asked how our stay was and when I told him he became very snitty, in all our travels through Ireland he was the only nasty person we encountered.

Room Tip: do not waste money on deluxe harbor view double room, it is tiny and not as indicated on website

Stayed here with my parents for three nights in May. Very comfortable rooms, great breakfast, good dinner choice in the evening and very helpful and friendly staff. Would happily stay here again.

Just a couple of constructive comments: the lift needs a good overhaul as does the gym equipment. Finally it's one of those few hotels that has parental controls on its wifi. Fine and dandy until it blocks perfectly ok websites. It's parents responsibility to ensure their children are either supervised while browsing, or have controls on their devices. Hotels acting as censor is wrong.
