Part of OPW, so heritage cards work here. Very nice display. Well preserved, about 1/2 hour for a visit. Also showcases info about how local wine imports influenced the area.

While the steep street climb to this turret castle is an unavoidable product of geology, the tour itself starts with a long, 45 degree stairway with approx. 10" or higher step rise. My wife simply could not negotiate this and our visit was finished.

It costs 3€ to see this nice museum of wine hosted by the 16th century Desmond Castle which used to serve as a customs house and 18th century prison . The wine museum offers of course no wine tasting and does not aspire to present the history of wine but it narrows it's presentation to the Irish contribution to the world wine production. They talk about the Irish wine geese which influenced the wine production worldwide. The prison exhibit tells us about the rough life of the prisoners in 18th century. It mentions the American prisoners taken during the War of Independence as well. Overall if you are short on time in Kinsale it is OK to skip this museum if it does not meet your interest.

It was a cooler, damp day, and we were not warmly dressed.. so we could feel the cold and pain of the prisioners who had no clothes and no blankets, and were packed in!! It was mid April, can't imagine what winter was like!! The castle and history are amazing as well!!
