“Perfect apatment with 2 minutes of Kinsale center”
Reviewed 15 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

A well-appointed apartment within 2 minutes walking distance of the center of Kinsale which is packed with pubs, restaurants and cafes. Own parking space which takes the worry out of parking on the street. Fast internet - much faster than most hotels - which allows easy access to information on activities and restaurants in the area. Brian, the landlord, was very helpful and friendly. Because of the range of pubs and restaurants in Kinsale we mostly ate out but the kitchen is perfect for cooking in.

“If offered Apt. No. 4 - BEWARE!”
Reviewed 5 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Other apartment reviews must be referring to the upstairs apartment No. 7 since the accomodation descriptions do not concur with our stay. If No. 7 is unavailable and you are offered No. 4, the downstairs apartment, please resist. I will say the location is very good and even though there is a hill up to the apartments it is very manageable with buggies and little legs. The accomodation itself is very dark inside since the building is surrounded very tall trees, I had to have the lights on all the time. Last year's leaves kept blowing into the apartment too so you had to wear your shoes or slippers all the time.
The apartment had all mod-cons and there was nothing we were in need of but it is in need of some serious updating. The wooden floors are way past it and I couldn't bare to walk on them barefoot and there was no way the baby was going on the floor for some rolling about. The decor in the bedrooms were early 90's and the duvet and pillows were as flat as pancakes. The sheets even had stains on them. The curtains were brutal too. I also think for a holiday let that the kitchen and bathrooms should have tiled floors, lino is just out.
The 'outdoor dining area' was little more than a table and two chairs in an alleyway with briars and weeds in your face with the wheelie bins around the corner. To be honest I hated coming back to the apartment in the evenings after a day of sightseeing and activity in Cork. Thank God the weather was so good that we didn't need to return until late in the evening.
For one week's rent this apartment could be brought up to date with little effort.

Management Response

Owner Response to Stephen:

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We value the opinions of our customers and we apologise that we did not meet your expectations. To clear up the confusion over numbers - The Apartment you rented was No 4 on the ground floor – the one listed here is No 9 - on the 1st floor.

We have been renting both these apartments for the last number of years without complaint. This is our first full year using trip advisor – and to ensure there is no confusion (as appears to have happened here) - for next season I will list them separately.

I am surprised to read your comments – as the only communication I had from you during your stay was a text saying– “we arrived today as planned and everything perfect …..Thanks for having all ready for us. It’s greatly appreciated”.

As I was away myself the week you visited - I did not get to inspect the property before you visited or to meet you. Both apartments are fully cleaned before each arrival by the same professional cleaner (including all floors) – we have never before had any issues with the quality of this service - but if you feel it was not up to standard on this occassion I apologise.

The outside common areas are cleaned regularly including fallen leaves from the trees lining the avenue – which add to the character of the street. I do see one briar in the pic you have submitted – but there was tremendous growth in weeds over a short period due to the uncharacteristically weather this summer.

As you point out the apartments are located in an excellent location – but an urban location - 200m from the town centre. Outside space is restricted – we have never claimed an “outside dining area”- we describe what you have photographed – as “ a small shaded outside patio with table and chairs” - which I feel is an accurate description – and weather permitting is quiet, peaceful and enjoyable.

The bed linen and matching curtains you describe as “brutal” are Dorma – a premium brand with a reputation for “producing beautiful bedlinen since 1921”. Likewise the Duvets were good quality light summer duvets – which, as July was the best month weather wise in Ireland for the last 6 years we feel were appropriate as opposed to “flat as pancakes” We do of course have heavier TOG ones available.

We are constantly updating the apartments – and we will take your comments on the bedroom décor on board. We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay – but we can assure you that we strive to provide an enjoyable holiday experience for all our guests .

“Ideal apartment and location”
Reviewed 11 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

This is a spacious apartment, modern, clean and well equipped, including free wi-fi. Two good size bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe space and comfortable living area with satellite tv. It is less than 5 minuets walk from centre of Kinsale on a quiet residential street with parking at the rear. The few minuets return walk from centre of town is however uphill !. No hesitation in recommending and hope to return.

“Very good value for money!”
Reviewed 29 December 2012 for a stay in December 2012

Excellent location: Just 2 minutes' walk from the centre of Kinsale, yet very quiet area. Great value, very comfortable & well equipped. Larger apartment than expected! The owner, Brian, couldn't have been more friendly & helpful.
Highly recommended!

“Absolutely Perfect!”

Recently we had the pleasure to travel to Ireland with our 8 month old son. Our criteria for where we stayed was a washer/dryer, space for my son to babble in his sleep (and not bother us), and walking distance to town. The Belfry fit all these needs and more. This was an absolutely perfect location, actually closer to the fun than we realized (after we finished winding the streets we found the direct route to town!) Everything was very clean, modern, and comfortable! We even had parking for our car. Every night we would come home early for my son to sleep, and enjoy relaxing in the living room complete with TV, WIFI and Comfy couches. (while my son's laundry quietly tossed in the background) Brian even provided a pack & play (or Cot as they call it in Ireland), sheets and extra blankets for my son, which was perfect! While our vacation was hectic, staying at a wonderful place such as the Belfry made it relaxing and rejuvenating. We'd love to return!

The first time I stayed at the Belfry was last July when I met up with my friend who was touring through Ireland, it was so nice I just had to stay there again when I went back this May! The apartments are lovely, spacious, clean, and just very well maintained. All of the appliances are really modern, and staying there is a great value, especially, if you don't want to eat out all the time. The location is the other great aspect of the apartment, it is so close to all of the fun attractions Kinsale has to offer. I would much prefer to stay here than any of the other B&B's or Hotels in Kinsale because staying here you really feel like you're living and experiencing Ireland first hand. Overall it was a great stay and I can't wait to go back!
