The food was delicious. The main course I had was absolutely excellent. It has lots of atmosphere - stylish surroundings and very busy. The staff are delightful and I have fallen in love with Siobhan (owner), but there is something missing to call it an excellent restaurant.
The menu consists of about 25 dishes that are almost all served cold and nod towards the starter/ anti-pasta end of a menu. The day we visited there were only two hot dishes - a crab filled ravioli and a chorizo & pea risotto. We shared two dishes between three as a starter and had a hot dish each for main. The crab filled ravioli was to die for. Thin pasta generously filled in a creamy, saffron sauce with fresh peas and pea shoots.
We had two bottles of Spanish red from Duero and the cheap end of the wine list (26 euro each), bringing the total to a fairly hefty 50 euros per head. (Hefty for the amount of food and the amount of cooking/ preparation in our starters).
Although I have been a bit critical, the food was very good and when I visit Kinsale again I will probably try it again.
