My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Hartley Lodge in Carrick on Shannon in County Leitrim, in May 2008. It is a short drive from downtown Carrick on Shannon. The facility is a purpose built B&B, aprroximately 4 years old, run by Ruth and Martin, a mid 30'ish couple with three children.
Our double room was modern and utilitarian. It was spotlessly clean, as were the others we had occassion to view. It included a bathroom with a large shower and a television in the sleeping area. The dining room was quite comfortable with an adjoining sitting area and larger television for guests. The full Irish Breakfast was cooked to order and was quite good. We both loved Ruth's brown soda bread. The front courtyard provided more than adequate parking.
The Lodge provides a country setting, though one can see newish subdivisions closer to town. There were cows grazing on the adjoining property. An interesting stone two room cottage abuts the property. Ruth told us that 13 children were raised in it. The atmosphere was peaceful and quiet. An early morning walk provided beautiful views of the countryside without encountering any intrusions to the serenity of the place.
We found our stay to be both a good value and a warm experience.
