A group of us went here after i saw the rave reviews on trip adviser, place looks gr8 from the outside but the inside is in real need of a makeover. Carpet on stairs is absolutely filthy and the dining room is cheap and shoddy. The menus were also cheap and dirty looking, more for a greasy cafe not what is meant to be a fine dining restaurant. Plates were chipped and curtains in need of replacement. I had goats cheese to start and i can safely say it was the worst I've ever had, deep fried sitting on sluggy apple sauce and some sort of balsamic reduction. It was extremely heavy for a dish that can be so simple. The chef is definitely stuck in an 80's time warp. I had turbot for mains which seemed slightly undercooked and came wit spinage and potatoe cake which was terrible, laddened wit grease. One of the group had crab to start and said it had way too much mayo and seemed like a teaspoon of crab meat.. The food is very expensive 2 courses for €30 plus €7 supplement for the turbot which i was not told about as it was a special relayed verbally. Toilets are situated upstairs and the smell of a deep fat fryer was very strong considering there are no chips on da menu... Gordon Ramsey would definitely need to visit here, seems as if it wasn't for passing trade the doors would not stay open as it was very quite also lacking in atmosphere! Overall We won't be returning

Food is just superb, service is very good but I couldn't afford to come here every week. I know this is "old cottage" but it looks dirty inside.... Still we really enjoyed dinning here

If you're looking for an excellent meal and cozy Irish atmosphere, The Wild Geese will not disappoint. While Adare can busy with tourists, once you step inside this cottage, you'll get a taste of the real Ireland. Instead of waiting for your table in a cramped area hungrily watching seated diners, you're seated in a living room with big couches and a small bar. You order your meal there, have a glass of wine and relax! The food is beautiful and delicious! There are several rooms, all small and very quiet and the service could not be better!

We were in the area for business visited the local adare hotel grounds which are magnificent and were advised to go to this restaurant, had a drink in the lounge before dinner service was attentive and food was fresh and cooked to perfection with a twist. There were a few Americans in the restaurant and they seemed to be loving the place as well.

I mean that literally. We were very much looking forward to trying the Wild Geese resto based on all the great reviews. Service was fine; wouldn't call it stellar, but certainly capable. Room was nice; quaint. Menu was interesting and solid - execution... needed salt. Everything. From the vegetables to the sesame crust on my fish. Seems the kitchen put away their seasoning for the evening.

The food was fine, notwithstanding a number of instances of unnecessary complications, but definitely needed seasoning.

I'm told wine is an emerging phenomenon in Ireland, and many restaurants are only beginning to offer serious lists. I'm also told the proclivity is towards primarily white wines still. Wild Geese is thus perhaps a product of its milieu, but the list is sparse and offers roughly an even number of red and white wines.
