Owner description: Snuggled in a wooded setting among the rich quiet farmlands of the Golden Vale by the River Maigue, Adare is a model village dating from the time of the Norman conquest. It has been home to the Earls of Dunraven (Quin Family) for over three centuries and is located on the Limerick to Tralee road, the N21, a great pit stop for those on the way to the Ring of Kerry. The Adare Heritage Centre, located in the middle of this charming town with its many thatched houses, allows you to step back in time through an informative historical exhibition, also incorporating a tourist office, gift, craft and heraldry outlets, and a restaurant. During Summer months - June-September - The Desmond Castle tour exclusively runs from the Heritage Centre 7 days a week, with a new tour every hour.

The Heritage Center is a nice little visitor center, with a few shops inside and a cafe where you can get a delicious lunch. There is a small exhibit in there that is included in the cost of a walking tour of the town. It was not particularly exciting to me, but I'm not much of a museum person. There are a few parts with hand's on exhibits that would make it fun for kids.

The walking tour was very nice. I don't know how big the group can be, so if there were more people, it might not have been as nice. As it was, the other people in our group were more centralized around the tour guide and there were times when we couldn't quite hear everything, but she tried to make sure we were all together and close enough to hear. It was just long enough to feel like we had a nice overview of the town, without being too long or overdone. The guide was interesting and pointed out things that very interesting things.

The town itself is quaint. There are several of the shops with thatched roofs which sets the mood of the town. It is a nice little town to spend a couple hours in, wandering shop to shop. The walking tour was definitely worth it and added a lot of charm to the town, since we better understood the history and culture of the town.

I think the design part is made out of clay but I don't remember. They adhere it to a dark wood in the unique heraldic shape.

The food here isn't the best....

I absolutely loved the castle tour in Adare! Our tour guide, Sandra, was lovely and so very knowledgable about the topic, you could tell she had a passion for the local history. I would recommend this to anyone traveling through the town!
