Our family came home from Australia to celebrate my husbands 80th birthday. We had dinner in Abbeyglen Castle in Clifden on Saturday. What a night! We were made feel so special by Brian. The service at the meal was first class and the food excellent. We cannot praise it enough. After the meal we went down to the bar and here a special night was made extra special again by Brian. His piano playing was amazing and our family go back to Australia with memories of Irish hospitality and entertainment at its best. Thank you Brian from all the Caseys. Night was fabulous

This was by far our least favorite accommodation of our trip and we stayed in 6 different hotels over 10 days. Everything about this place was a disappointment excepting the gorgeous part of Ireland where it is located. We were very impressed at first glance, but once entering the abbey( It is not a castle) we were immediately disappointed.  Reception and common areas were tired and shabby. Anyone who has travelled at all can tell you if the common areas are poor, you can get ready for a rude awakening in the rooms.  Having a family of four, we required 2 separate rooms so we had the opportunity to view more than one. Although there was great potential there, it was completely unfulfilled. The bedrooms were in dire need of some tlc and updating. There were moths and other additional flying critters all over the place. My ten year old daughter was afraid to turn out the light.  There were all of , I think , 5 channels on the television( we had a hard time getting to sleep due to uncomfortable mattresses and crawling skin).  The bathrooms utilize bog water which while not harmful is rust colored and came as a surprise.  The restaurant has fine dining prices without the fine dining to go along with it, assigns national flags to your table, and the wait staff couldn't answer most questions.  The evenings entertainment consisted of two gentlemen playing trad music who were clearly just going through the motions and our waitress dressed as a leprechaun at the end of the meal. Really.  We couldn't wait to move on the next day.

Located In a real neat town in western Ireland. Check in was prompt. Room was pretty dated. There was a huge spider web in one corner. The bed was awful, part of the mattress was broke and sagging. The room was a large two room suite, the bathroom was large and had a jetted tub.

The restaurant was great! Food was delicious, and service was second to none. The pub was fantastic as well. We had a great time listening to the entertainer and other patrons singing traditional tunes. The breakfast buffet was good the next morning.

I would stay here again, but I will certainly check the bed to make sure it was not broken.

Room Tip: Check the mattress before settling in.

Had a great stay for 3 nights, any problems we did have were dealt with exceptionally fast, just remember you can't fix a problem if you don't know about it. The bar was great entertainment each night and the rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and the showers were hot. Meals were good and the staff friendly and very helpful, Gilbert was a lovely, he loved a scratch but be aware he is a little fickle showing everyone his love and fingers can be nibbled on. Great places to eat in town and some great characters to be met if you stay at Abbeyglen Castle Hotel or shop in the town of Clifden.

Room Tip: Any room would be god it is an experience that you get not just a room.

Oh My what a fabulous idyllic hotel. we spent a beautiful weekend here and I would highly recommend it. We had a brilliant room in the Turret the bathroom was huge with a roll top bath and huge separate shower. The four poster bed was very comfy and the sitting area was lovely . Lovely views from the room. The free afternoon tea and scones was a lovely gesture as was the Champagne reception each evening with Rodger and Michael. The piano music supplied by Paul and Brian and the crack in the bar each night was great. The food was excellent and the anniversary dessert was very much appreciated thank you Brian.Lovely helpful staff. We had a massage in the treatment rooms and it was excellent. The seating area at the fountain was lovely . Fabulous location I would definitely recommend this idyllic hotel and will return.

Room Tip: Get a superior double room 25

Abbey Glen castle has everything you would expect of Irish hospitality. A very warm welcome in the form of a champagne reception ...yes, this is for everyone.....accompanied by a fascinating Informal talk about the area for you to get the very best of your visit. The welcome was extended by the resident "African Grey" parrot - Gilbert, who is a firm favourite of everyone. African greys are extremely intelligent and talkative.

Dinner was always perfect and not only the staff, but the owners were totally involved with making our stay a memorable one. The dining room was never nerve wrackingly quiet, but there was always a relaxing hum amongst the visitors. The clever ice breaker was that your home country's flag was put on your table so you could easily open an interesting conversation. One of the Ambassadors to Ireland was there with his entourage enjoying the relaxed hospitality of the dining room.

The suite they gave us was the most beautiful we have ever stayed in. With typical Irish weather Abbeyglen is a place you certainly don't mind sheltering in for part of your day.
Location was beautiful with several walks on the doorstep.

Totally recommended.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor suite which looked across the beautiful gardens and beyond. Perfect.

Gilbert the parrot is reason alone for visiting. Seriously, our room was beautiful and service was impeccable. Food was good. A little too much shtick with the flags on the tables. Beautiful location and Sky road is really something to be seen. One suggestion, upgrade size of soap in bathrooms a bit cheesy to have it keep falling thru the soap holder.
