I really want to rate this place highly. the staff are amzing, and great fun. We were there the weekend of the 13-15th of December and it was very quiet so got chatting to all the staff, I cannopt speak highly enough of them. They are so lovely, i will definately be making a trip back to the station house.

Very warm reception on arrival, check-in quick and efficient, we were informed that the kitchen was under renovation so breakfast would be served in the Station House restaurant across the courtyard. Unfortunately same cannot be said for tall dark haired receptionist the following morning, she barely looked up from the desk and when we asked about local places to visit she directed us to leaflets near the lift. I felt like we were really bothering her with nonsense, very rude and surly, which is a pity as all other receptionists were lovely. We were given a room on the first floor very tired and dated decor. As we started to unpack we could hear a kango hammer directly below us, rang reception to ask when it would stop and were informed they were working until 8pm but they offered to move us to another room and floor, the new room was more modern but still needs attention, black scuff marks on skirting boards, shower drain smelly when shower first turned on, beds not of best quality, have mattress toppers rather than good quality ones, hotel was pretty empty so why were we offerer poorer room first? The package we went for was 2 nights BB&1D, breakfast the following morning involved getting wrapped up for the cold, but was good it included fresh fruit and good coffee. The dinner menu is very limited, but the daily specials enlarge it slightly unfortunately the daily specials were the same for both days, but quality good, portions generous and service speedy. On checking out their computer system was down so we could not get a copy of our bill and were just told what we owed and no offer to forward on receipt to us. I don't know if I would try here again as this was the end of the season and service and standards were slipping so wondering how they would cope in busy seasons. Overall below average impression all round.

Room Tip: Ask for room on fourth floor as these seem to have been added later and are more modern, also street...

Great spot and great service at reception. However lack of hot water and a leaking tap a real disappointment. The tap had been leaking so long it had rusted the fixture below! No internet in room. For breakfast there was no menu, just "whatever you want". Which is a bit disconcerting.

What a perfect location for our family break! From the moment we arrived we were greeted like old friends. The hotel is perfectly located, so central to all happening in the area, plenty of on-site free parking which is always a bonus! Stayed with my husband and 2 children in one of the family rooms. So spacious and spotlessly clean! We met the Accomodations Manager Nancy on the hallway, and she stopped what she was doing to introduce herself to us and asked us if everything was ok for us..in fact all the staff were so friendly and efficient throughout. Charmaine in the leisure centre and all of her staff were great with the kids and couldn't do enough. The food in the restaurant was top quality, the presentation was just amazing and it tasted just as good. We had lunch in the bar on one afternoon and the staff and atmosphere in the place was second to none.
Special mention to the reception team especially Andrea who was so friendly and genuine. She took the time to get to know the kids and didn't forget their names even though the hotel was full of families. Before we arrived we were speaking with Kathleen who was so accomodating to all our requests and made sure everything was perfect for us. Two great assets to the hotel! We had a quiet drink in the lovely library bar and the owner Mr. Sweeney introduced himself and chatted with us for over half an hour, he had such knowledge of the area and directed us to all the best sights. We have never experienced such personality and genuine friendliness in any hotel before, it really is a credit to the owner and management of the hotel.
We will definitely be back again soon and will recommend this fabulous hotel to our friends.
Well done Clifden Station House!

P.S. Best of luck with your exams Andrea!! :-)

Hotel room was clean, we were in room 305 which over looked a main road which was quite noisy and a fire station opposite. Thought drink was overpriced, €6 for a glass of wine. Breakfast was the worst I've had, fruit was going brown, plates very old. Orange juice tasted like water. Staff were friendly and lunch was nice.

Stayed here with a group from work recently and found it to be a very good experience. Reception staff really friendly and very quick check-in. Rooms were really comfortable, good linen, plenty of towels and a supply of soaps, shampoos, shower hats etc. We had dinner from a set menu which had a good range of starters, main courses and desserts. Service was good, food was excellent. There is a small bar at reception but the main bar is across the courtyard.
The countryside is particularly lovely around Clifden and the Station House is a great place to stay.

I have stayed at the Station House on numerous occassions over the last 10 years and have always had a very warm welcome, great food and have never had to complain once. A party of 20 of us turned up at 2am once due to flight delays(we did inform them we would be late) and the hotel had arranged a fantastic buffet for us and gave us a drink when we arrived. I stayed there again this year with 27 other golfers, a lot had never been to Ireland before, and all they talked about was the hospitality, fantastic food and how well we were treated and they have already asked me to arrange another trip back to Clifden to stay in the Station House Hotel.
