“A lovely first stay at the Clifden Station House”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2014

I booked a 2-night stay including breakfast and one evening meal package through Groupon for my boyfriend's birthday. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again if back in Clifden. We had our meal on the Friday night but all the tables were full in the Station bar so a member of staff brought us over to main hotel restaurant straight away. The breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice between full Irish, pancakes and croissants. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful. The main highlight for me was the hotel entertainment that weekend, they had the most amazing pianist playing in the hotel lobby on the Friday and Saturday night, he played requests for people and on the Saturday night allowed hotel guests to come up and sing and accompanied them on the piano. There was no need to leave the hotel!

Room Tip: I think we stayed on the third floor, nice and quiet

We booked a 2-night B&B plus 1 evening meal package through Groupon. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome at the Clifden Station House; all the staff were great! We arrived quite late and after inquiring at the front desk were given directions to a lovely pub in the main street where we were able to relax by a turf fire and have a light meal. The next morning Aine, at the front desk, gave us a map of the local area and suggested an itinerary for the day. After a very substantial breakfast, including porridge, made to order, we left for a fantastic day in Connemara. That evening we enjoyed a nice meal (with generous portions!) in the restaurant. During our stay we were aware that another guest was celebrating her 100th birthday! At breakfast, the manager wished her a Happy Birthday and produced a beautiful bouquet of flowers; in the evening a lovely birthday cake appeared. This reflected the customer care that is clearly part of the ethos of the Clifden Station House Hotel. Yes, it is a little inconvenient that Wi-fi is not available in the hotel bedrooms but it is available in the lobby and in the other public areas. We would certainly recommend the Clifden Station House and would be happy to return.

Room Tip: We asked for an upgrade as our first room was fine but a little small. The front desk staff were hap...

Not a good choice if you like wifi in your rooms, comfortable beds, and anything resembling modern amenities in the bathrooms.

Yes, no wifi in rooms. Wired internet access for an extra fee!
King beds consist of two not-terribly-great double beds pushed together.
Rooms are huge but none of the furniture is comfortable. Bathrooms cramped, terribly lit, and with shower-baths that are difficult to operate.
Location is great - if you're just looking for a place to stay the night, it'll do.

We're pretty easygoing, but we would avoid this hotel.

Dear Bethshanna,

Thank you for posting your review of the Station House Hotel. I would like to apologize that we did not live up to your expectations during your stay. I see your review as constructive and will focus on these areas for future guests to the hotel.
In relation to the WIFI we are currently working on a solution to have WIFI in all guest bedrooms. I would expect to have this in place shortly.

In relation to your stay I can be contacted personally at ronan.fahy@clifdenstationhouse.com to discuss your stay further.

Regards,
Ronan Fahy,
General Manager.

Very relaxing and friendly staff. We have stayed here before. Hotel is very central and you can walk around the shops and cafes in Clifden. The breakfast had a large variety to choose from ranging from smoked salmon to a full cooked breakfast. This was cooked to order. Would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: We were in room 212 which was beside the lift however it was very quiet.

Have been to this hotel 4 or five times for weekend breaks with the family, staff were very friendly and very professional without losing the personal touch. We found the facilities great for the family with leisure centre & cinema for kids and we got value in a great 3 night deal the last time we stayed. We look forward to going back.

We had a lovely relaxing weekend at the Station House Hotel. The room was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help. There was never any noise in the hotel at night so had a great night sleep both nights. There was a great choice for breakfast, we were down for breakfast between 9 and 9.30 so never had to wait for a table. The food in the Station House Bar was excellent we ate there first night with our deal and went back on the second night too as the food was so good. Plenty to see and do in the locality and a very interesting museum right beside the hotel, well worth a visit. We are already planning our next trip back.

Even in the quiet month of January we found the busy bar and breakfast area together with the friendliness of staff the proximity to the town , and the general atmosphere at the station house ,added to a perfect weekend inthe lovely town of Clifden .
