From the welcome by Paddy and Julia- consummate professionals and charming - our 3 nights at this lovely spot by the small harbour in Clifden were magic. Our room was spacious slightly quirky in decor but very comfortable overlooking the tiny harbour. Varied and spacious communal areas and nothing was too much bother for the hosts and their team. The breakfasts are excellent . Wifi a bit fickle but who cares ! . They were happy to recommend and book local eateries and we were not disappointed. A great find and we have no hesitation in recommending highly.

We recently spent a few days in Clifden, staying at the charming Quay House by the harbor. The decor of the house is worth the visit - eclectic, unusual and very interesting. Rooms are large and very comfortable. Breakfast choices are fresh, delicious and plentiful ( I even tried the kippers one morning, a bit of a stretch for an American). The breakfast room itself is just beautiful, adding to the charm of the experience. Julia and Paddy are wonderful hosts, friendly and helpful. Location is excellent, a pleasant walk (slightly uphill) into the town of Clifden where there are several fine restaurants and pubs. There is construction at present, so you must take a bit of a detour on the sky road in order to get to the Quay House. Clifden is a good way point between Galway, the Connemara attractions, Westport and Cong. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Be prepared to go up on the sky road a bit after you enter the town and then backtrack to get to bea...

Amazing breakfast for Nick starting with fresh oysters. Our hosts and staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The view from our bedroom was over the inlet.

Room Tip: Julia asked us to pick and we had the Blue room complete with four poster bed

my boyfriend and I spent just one night here, but it's by far the most charming spot we stayed in during our Ireland trip. And that includes spending waaaay to much on Ballynahinch the night before!
Paddy and Julia are professional and charming hosts! the building is decorated in a unique and fun style and is completely charming; the breakfast was truly amazing! We had an opportunity to look at a few rooms as we arrived early- each was thoughtfully decorated with a large , extremely clean bathroom and the rooms we saw all had views of the harbor.
A nice touch is a fountain running in the rear of the building which blocks out any noise from other rooms- the place was full yet we heard nothing from other guests.
Quay House is a short (less than 10 minute ) walk from downtown Clifden--a nice distance and i sure even more important on weekends when Clifden gets more crowded.
highly recommended and we appreciate the personal care and attention we got from Paddy and Julia!

Words cannot really describe the wonderful time we had at the charming Quay House. Not only were we completely enchanted by the whimsical decor but the superior hospitality bestowed upon us by the owners and their family made leaving a very sad event.
The food was exceptional and we shamelessly took in all the relaxed comforts throughout.

Paddy and Julia were only to happy to provide directions and make suggestions on day trips and places to eat. They were also quick to share in a laugh or two.

There should be no hesitation on anyone's part about staying here. We will be returning from Canada to visit again and we plan on staying longer than 3 days this time.

However we must admit that the most memorable thing about the Quay House and what we endearingly brought home in our hearts were the memories of Clifden's tilted lampshades. Make sure you ask the owners about that during your stay. :)

Enjoy!

Welcoming and thoughtful hosts. We arrived late; they'd set up a dinner res at Mitchell's, a good restaurant in Clifden. The hotL's a short walk from town overlooking a small tidal harbor. Used to be the harbormaster's. Along the granite bulkhead lie a number of work and pleasure craft that bottom out at the 18' low water. Shore fowl overfly the little port. Horses graze a meadow across the cove. The third floor room was quiet; e-z dozing in the comfortable bed. Little bay greeting the morning eyes. Breakfast? You gotta figure out how to work this off. Eggs Benedict, Full Irish; puddings, sausage, eggs. Oysters. Oatmeal. Abundant. Something about that makes the guests convivial so there are impromptu acquaintances aplenty. Walking's big around here. Down the road is a little swimming beach. Go.
