“A real enigma”
Reviewed 4 April 2013

This B&B is a real mix of experiences. The location is great, the host is very friendly and helpful but a couple of things let it down in our stay. They may seem trivial but the competition in this market is fierce. The common walls are paper thin (honeymoon couples beware) there is no TV in each room (no problem for honeymoon couples) and the shower is below average in pressure and a low flow shower-head..

The B & B has a great location but the rooms do not stain any charm. The water shower invites not as dark colour (due to the turf).

Owners friendly and breakfast right.

But the worst were the mosquitoes. I began to notice an itchy soon after being outdoors admiring the fabulous scenery and I could see that I was literally covered with mosquitoes.

Located in such and idyllic locations it was a wonderful and peaceful place. The french family who run the B & B were very accomodating and warm. Lovely breakfast, especially the prunes and bluberries which were delicious. The only nagative is the brownish colour of the water which runs from the local streams. Despite knowing its clean felt weird to have a wash in it. The bathrooms should really have shampoos and soaps but we had them so wasn't a problem but I can see that it may be a negative to others. The room was very large and spacious with very comfortable beds for all 4 of us.
Finding the place was very difficult however but they directed us all the way so we were able to make it. Sat nav does not seem to be able to find the place easily.

Location is what makes this B&B special. In the middle of nowhere, in front of the coast, quiet, with wonderful view and yet only 6 min drive from Clifden.

Accommodation is nothing special. Rooms are large but decorated with bad taste, bed sheets are inadequate and so are towels (1 medium size towel per person). The water flow in the shower is frustratingly low.

Breakfast is good, home-made, sufficient quantity and quality, choice between irish and continental breakfast.

Price is reasonable.

Overall, this is a poorly run B&B situated in a fantastic setting.

Put simply, we had a negative experience. The first day/night was rather benign. They include no amenities in the bathroom which I thought was unusual. I mean, most cheapo places offer shampoo and soap, but we had travelled with some extra, so that was no big deal. The breakfast was adequate, if not exciting. My wife had some breathing issues and we cracked the window which helped her. The second night I woke up with this creepy-crawly feeling all over my body. Then I had the sensation of getting bitten. Turning on the lights revealed swarms of gnats around us, in the bed, and in the bathroom. It was 4:10am, but I had to ring the French proprietors for assistance. Well, not really ring, as there was no phone per se, but knock on their door. The husband was rather pissed and kept saying "it's 4 in the morning.". We showed him the problem and he reluctantly gave us a repellant spray, but refused absolutely our request for new sheets, and said there were no other rooms we could use for the rest of the night. He also said "I have no solution for you.". So faced with the fact that they were so unwilling to accommodate fresh sheets, and the fact that the room became infested (mind u we had no warning and the place did not have any protective screens for the windows) we left at 5am, not to be seen at breakfast. I was really taken aback by there hostile stance. The husband actually was insistent on my giving back the bug stay immediately. €60 nightly.... You know what I'm going to say... You get what u pay for.

Stayed for one night here with my husband and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The French couple who run the b and b do a great job. They're relaxed, friendly, accommodating and great cooks. We had dinner there and it was delicious and excellent value, and it was so nice to eat looking out over the beautiful sea, and be able to go straight back to your room afterwards - a very relaxing way to spend an evening.

The location is great - 5 minutes from Clifden. Be careful to take the correct road though as taking the wrong way on the Sky Road is very easy to do and adds almost half an hour to the journey (it's a stunning drive though so not the worst mistake in the world if you end up there!)

Our double room was very spacious, nicely decorated and quiet.

I'd really recommend this place and hope to go back soon.
