“Great place with great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

Our family stay at Ardmore was excellent. The location was beautiful and so were our rooms. Breakfast was great, with good portions and many choices. Our hosts were very helpful and accommodating to our every need. We enjoyed our walks out to the cliffs and during our first afternoon we witnessed a double rainbow that was very vividly colored! If you are planning a trip to Clifden, Connemara National Park or Kylemore Abbey, this is a great place to stay, it is located close to all of them. Driving the Upper Sky Road was a treat and gave us a view of the area that was amazing! If we are able to make a return trip to Ireland we will definitely book another stay with Kathy and John at Ardmore.

Still can't believe how cheap this was. Ended up staying two nights and would have stayed several more but for family commitments. The standard of the accommodation, the hospitality and the food are what you would expect at a five-star luxury establishment. They really think of everything. scrambled eggs with a mountain of smoked salmon was best breakfast ever. There's a private path to the cliff top where you can contemplate eternity while gazing out to the wild Atlantic, listening to stonechats and larks, disturbed only by the occasional chomping of grass by Connemara ponies. Peace. Bliss.

We spent 2 lovely nights here. First of all, this is the most immaculate, clean B&B I have ever been in. Our room was roomy and overlooked the meadows and ocean out in the distance. The owners are very hospitable, and Kathy made it a point to recommend places to visit, along with a local map. The breakfast was terrific. They also have a small fridge and glasses, etc for their guests use. I usually don't write reviews. In our 2 weeks in Ireland, this place deserves one! As others have noted, it is out of town and on a single lane road but don't let that deter you. In the summer, the sun doesn't set until 10 PM, so don't be afraid you will be driving in the dark. We did not come across a car coming the opposite direction either of our times on the road. The first night we were there, it rained, but cleared up around 9:15 PM, so we took their private cliff walk, and it was spectacular. The sun setting on the cliffs, and the cows in the pasture, it was gorgeous! I'm so glad we didn't miss it!

If not the best by itself, then for sure tied for the best! This was a great place to stay as we traveled all around the coast of Ireland. Guests were made to feel welcome in a way that was warm and genuine and truly thoughtful. Every need was thought of to make the stay memorable and comfortable. The sitting room was available for all to sit and relax as well as a computer and printer for anyone wanting to use. Unfortunately we were only there one night, but would have loved to have stayed longer. The Lower Sky Road was very narrow in parts and we wondered where we would end up, but at the end of the drive out from Clifden we were rewarded 100%. Kathy was truly a lovely host, very sincere and helpful in every way. The night we stayed the other house guests were from Germany and France and did not speak English. With the right mix of people we could imagine that the sitting room would have been a great place to sit and chat, have a glass of wine or a few beers at the end of a long day. The Cliff walk just down from the B&B was again nothing short of spectacular. The owners had made great efforts to ensure that all B&B guests could get out to the cliff safely and easily. They even provide a picnic table for those that feel inclined to sit and look out to sea. We were very impressed with the walkway and the cliff views. Together with the great Irish hospitality this is what makes Ardmore House rank #1. Oh yes, the best white pudding on the trip as well!!

Our second visit to Ardmore House and we were just as pleased as our first stay; lovely spotless clean room, best shower we had in Ireland; the breakfast had plenty of healthy choices.
Ardmore private walk to the cliffs and the picnic benches made our evenings perfect.
Kathy and John are always there to help and gave us lots of advice on things to do and places to visit in the area. I would highly recommend this B+B

Room Tip: Beautiful sea views from the rooms

This was the most scenic location of our overnight stays on our 11 day trip to Ireland, however that comes at a cost. The road to Ardmore house is, like many in Ireland, single lane and subject to livestock movement. It is also a good 15 minute drive outside of Clifden, which makes it difficult to venture into town for dinner and a pint (definitely don't have more than two). Also, were not aware that the balance of our hotel room had to be paid in CASH. We were fortunate that we had the 65 Euro on us, or a trip back into town to find an ATM would have been required.

The only problem I had with our stay at Ardmore House was that it was only for one night ! A lovely welcome from Kathy , top class accommodation, holding a well earned AA 4Star status and a stunning location. I look forward to a return visit with the walking boots in order to enjoy the cliff path walk which John and Kathy have created ( perhaps to allow their guest the opportunity to burn off the calories consumed at the Breakfast table) . A lovely and very convenient touch was the little kitchen area for the use of guests , fridge , microwave etc. and this on top of the tea and coffee making facilities in each room. John and Kathy know how to do hospitality ! Thankyou , I can't wait to go back.
