“Jewel in the Bog”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

It was great to find the ruins of the station , however it was just by chance, there were no sign postings and no tourism literature in the area to let us know this landmark was there. Tourism Ireland need to be aware

“Very interesting sight and adventurous drive across the bog.”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

South of Clifden its sign posted and easy to find. The site is accessed via a bog road. Thought gates which must be closed to keep in the livestock. Maybe more suited to a 4X4. The road is rough but I nursed the car along. The wife is a bit windly about me driving into places like this and was a bit nervous. To be honest its long drive into the site and I was about to turn around before I spotted it in the distance. There is room for maybe three cars to park. There is very little left today at this very large historic site. Concrete ruins and and platforms used for securing the masts that once stood. To imagine this back in 1907 in the back end of this West of Ireland this was the stuff of science fiction. What to see? the site itself, the bog, people working the bog, sheep, flora & fauna also this site shares the crash site of the first transatlantic of Alcock and Brown. Worth a look and free...

“It'll Make a Great Visitor Centre”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

This historic site covers thousands of hectares and at its peak employed some 300 people. Construction must have been a massive undertaking and for sure there are countless concrete ruins which will have provided platforms for masts and aerials and accommodation for Marconi's pioneering work. I understand that the site is to be turned into a visitor centre (I know not when) at which time it will be unmissable. For the time being use your imagination and enjoy.

“If you like fresh air”
Reviewed 22 May 2014

We liked the wild Connemara ponies, water plants and scenery. You should take the mile long walk, not suitable for vehicles.
