Clare took me out on a white-water kayaking trip on a sunny day a few weeks ago -- easily the best day in a month-long trip around Ireland! The instruction was perfect and patient and I never felt in over my head, while being enjoyably challenged in an amazing new sport! Everything was top-notch in my whole experience, I cannot recommend Real Adventures Connemara enough. If you're anywhere near Galway, it's worth making the trip up to take in a day in Connemara with these guys.

Clare took our family (plus dog!) sea kayaking. After my email enquiry, she rang me straightaway to arrange our trip. All of the equipment was provided. We met up on a beautiful day and had a great morning exploring the coast and caves near Cleggan. Finished off with snorkelling. Clare took photos for us and emailed them to us straightaway. Connemara is stunning with clear waters and beautiful beaches. Thank you Clare for giving us an experience to treasure.

We met our guide at our B&B and we followed him to a beach where we put the kayaks in the water. The weather was beautiful and with our wet suits we didn't have to worry about getting cold. Steven took us out to all the caves in the area and it was exciting navigating through the narrow passageways with large swells pushing you in every direction. We even had a seal follow us during our trip. It was a great way to start the day. We were supposed to go rock climbing in the afternoon but due to some farmers moving sheep in the same location we had to say goodbye to Steven. We ended up driving to Connemara National Park in the afternoon which was another great adventure for our time on the west coast.

Some of the roads in Connemara are amongst the most scenic in the world. From Galway drive to Oughterard and from there you are amongst the majestic Twelve Bens. The road from Oughterard to Clifden is beautiful. However there are many other similar roads, up through Maam Valley to Killary Harbour (this area was the film set for The Field). We brought visitors up the Inagh Valley and they were amazed. Their comment was 'and they say Scotland is beautiful this is much nicer'. Stop for lunch at Ballinahinch Castle, which has a wonderful history. Have tea overlooking the river. The Galway/Clifden road can be busy but the other roads are quiet, in high season they are busy but they are all single carriageways so it allows you to drive at an easier pace. There are so many great scenic roads, its hard to name one but the Lough Inagh road is my favourite. Even if its raining its still nice. Visit Kylemore Abbey for afternoon tea and see their lovely gardens. Such haunting beauty.
