Ireland is such a wonderful place to visit. So much going for it what with Guinness that really is Guinness, food, hospitality and quaint road systems. They even write road signs backwards on the road - stay in lane is written lane in stay if you see what I mean. Takes some getting used to but makes absolute sense whilst you're there. But their prices are something to behold! I thought there was a recession but it seems to have missed the restaurant fraternity. And that brings me to Nicks.

I suppose that as a tourist economy with Americans by the score maybe there is a reason for high prices but with abundant food resources how you justify €14 for 3scallops in a sauce as a starter does take a little swallowing. Unlike the scallops which were perfectly cooked and fresh. Our group had a variety of starters including calamari and mussels. Ahh the mussels - requested for a change in tomato and garlic came in white sauce and garlic........

Now the story of the mains is sort of similar.... Steaks delicious, trio of fish.... Fresh and beautifully cooked and then the deep sea sole. Well mine arrived on time and was soooooo good fresh and perfectly cooked whereas poor Rory had to wait as the order had been mislaid, missed or just whatever. But there here comes the saving grace.... Waitress noticed and went to maitre d' and admitted her mistake. Within 2 minutes he was at the table with profuse apologies and an assurance that we would not be charged for that dish. We had more than enough veggies and we have some big eaters. Wine was good and a little pricey but with the number of bottles consumed it just got lost in the ambience. Desserts for some, cheese with port and brandies, so not a light night although our wallets were truly lightened.

As a piano bar it's man on the ivories played really well and it was really getting lively as we were leaving. Just a shame the taxi came early....... On the other hand with drinks priced as they were maybe not. Good value for a pricey night out so don't think you'll get a cheaply deal.

I have had the joy of dining at Nicks Restaurant and Piano Bar, Killorglin, several times since arriving in Killarney, Ireland. And I must say that it is the best restaurant by far, in the region. John is an exceptionally lovely man who is friendly and kind, and is someone who shows a genuine interest in his patrons, ensuring that they enjoy a wonderful night's dining experience. I have dined there three times in 10 days, and will return again a few times before leaving for Italy.

Very nice dinner. Excelent fried brie cheese, good steak (a bit small though) and though a bit small tasty brownie.
Lightly overrated price/dishes.
Overall, worthy to go at least once.
