We have just finished a two week tour of Ireland staying in 8 different B&B’s, all priced between 60€ to 80€ / night. I want to start by saying that every single accommodation was more than adequate and I would certainly not put any of them below a 3 rating. One important point is that on-site parking was an essential requirement as we had a rental car. However they were certainly not all equal. I am rating them using the following categories?
Location: fantastic, just across the bridge on Valentia Island, great views from the breakfast room
Room comfort: best on the trip - lovely big room with a large walk-in shower.
Hosts: Mary and Jim are very nice friendly hosts with lots of good advice about what to see and do and where to go eat.
Breakfast: very good

Mary was a lovely host and her home is beautiful. Great location, very close to Portmagee and the Skellig Experience. The room we had was gorgeous, it felt like being in a tree house and the showers was amazing, so hot and with great water pressure. Mary helped set up our trip to the Skelligs, which was great! And the tours took place right down the road from the hotel. Breakfast was served in the a room with windows all around overlooking the whole bay and the hills across. Really incredible views. Just an overall lovely lovely stop. Definitely stay here over Portmagee if you want a good nights rest. A lot of the hotels across the way are above pubs.

Short break at this brilliant B&B. The weather wasn't that great but Shealane was and made for the most relaxing break.

A bright modern cheerful house on a hill just near where the causeway joins the island. There is free off road parking outside

Our modern and refurbished room had windows on 3 sides each with a stunning view. It was a great size and the bed was large comfortable with lots of pillows and very high quality linens. The walls were clad in wood and the bathroom in slate and tile with a power shower was brand new and superb. The room had a small TV, WiFi with a good signal and speed and loads of power points

Downstairs there's a large residents lounge with a huge TV and very comfortable sofas

Breakfast is served downstairs in a modern conservatory with stunning views (I know I keep saying that but its true. There is a great range of choices and food is cooked a la carte. The quality of the home baked breads is amazing

The quality of the welcome was even better than the room and food. This is a real gem of a place and the price is amazing value

We came to Shaelane for one night as part of a weeklong trip to Ireland with friends. It was recommended to us by the boat operator we used to visit Skellig Michael. Shaelane was by far the best bed and breakfast we had in our trip. The rooms were clean and comfortable with excellent water pressure in the shower. The breakfast was delicious and the views from the breakfast room were gorgeous. I recommend this place highly. Thanks to Mary and Jim for their hospitality. -KR

We spent three nights at Shealane in September which were magnificent. Apart from the location and beautiful views which are stunning, we felt so warmly welcomed by Mary and Jim our hosts.
The room was spacious and very comfortable with views of Portmagee and out to the ocean.
This was a highlight of our time in Ireland and recommend it highly. Thank you so much to Mary and Jim.
